It was a shock to see that there was a spelling error on one of the first signs to greet you at Graceland. Can you spot the error?
We were disappointed because you can't take pictures inside the house. All I can do is give you my impressions. This is the famous gate outside that welcomes you to Graceland.
Behind the gate lies the picturesque, white and pillared mansion.
A moving part of the tour is reading some of the graffiti on the wall that surrounds the compound. Apparently this is updated continuously by the fans that don't forget.
The tour was extremely interesting however I was taken back by how dark and tacky the interior is. There is a lot of shag carpeting and colors of orange, green, bright yellow and royal blue (Elvis' favorite).
I was truly moved at the meditation garden where he and close family members are laid to rest. Elvis had this garden built about 20 years before his death. It includes a large water fountain, a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary, flowers from fans, a pool in the background, horses in a pasture off to the side and a warm feeling. I felt very moved and had to wipe tears away from my eyes.
Outside his home are, what I consider, tasteful displays. One of the them is an exhibit of many of his interesting vehicles and a fun collection of home movies and memorabilia at the "Walk a Mile" display.
My impression of Elvis, after this visit, is that he was a nice, caring and giving man. A quote of his that I like goes something like, "Don't criticize a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes."
After spending the entire day at Graceland we enjoyed a scrumptious meal at Corky's. Nothing says tradition better than this restaurant's famous mouth-watering Bar-B-Q. Corky's was voted the #1 Bar-B-Q in Memphis for eight straight years.
Check out the ribs and the two little piggys enjoying them...yummy!
