Our last day in Memphis was spent at the "Memphis in May" World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. Fifty barbecue contests
across the United States are now part of the Memphis in May Sanctioned
Contest Network. Winners from regional contests are guaranteed
a space for competition here, making the World Championship
Barbecue Cooking Contest the tournament of barbecue
champions.
About 250 booths are set up along the shore of the Mississippi River. The cost to set up a booth is in excess of $35,000 and the grand prize is $5,000. You figure out the logic...I think that this is just a BIG social event.
Enjoy some of the strange and interesting sights......
