As a teen I was a follower. Wanting my friends to like me, I did some foolish things. I tried to earn acceptance with my peers.
In 1972 I left my childhood home. I hurt both my parents. One of the EMTs who came to help my mother insisted I take with me a Bible from our living room bookshelf.
I had grown up going to Sunday School. I knew about Jesus; that He had died on a cross. Our family had celebrated Christmas and Easter. I knew names like Joseph, Moses, David,
For about 6 months I tried to please God my way - by doing *the right things* and not doing *wrong things*. I found it frustrating because I couldn't STOP doing the wrong things or consistently DO the right things. As I washed dishes at my kitchen sink one day early in 1973, I told God that I could not please Him myself - that He would need to do the work in me. I agreed that Jesus died, was buried and rose from the dead for my sins. This is what God wanted all along . . . for me to have a personal relationship with Him. Now God accepts me as I am and I have learned to accept myself as His wonderful creation.

I have kept the vow I made when the children were baptized. I taught each of my children about this wonderful God and His plan for us to enjoy a personal relationship with Him forever. Each of them must decide that they want Him in their life.
I'm sharing this here so YOU can DECIDE to know God. He wants to accept you no matter what you've done before. He has plans for you. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to give you hope and a future. . . " Jeremiah 29:11

"Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You. . . O great and powerful God, whose name is the LORD Almighty, great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds." (Jeremiah 32:17 -19, NIV) "The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He gave the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let everyone in the world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. For when He spoke, and the world began! It appeared at His command. The LORD shatters the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the LORD's plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken." (Psalm 33:6 - 11) |
