Biscoe Fire Department is staffed by volunteer firefighters. There are positions for twenty-four full-time volunteers and four daytime-only firefighters that are on call during business hours when others may be out of the district. Full-time firefighters must reside within the Eagle Fire District, which is served by the Biscoe Fire Department.
The department was reorganized in 1950, with several of our current retired members being charter members. The reorganization was made possible by the good citizens of Biscoe who agreed to have the local property taxes doubled for two years in order to buy a truck and equipment for the department. Since that time there have been only six different Fire Chiefs, a testament to the dedication and loyalty that members of this department have shown over the years. Two of our Chiefs have also served as Mayor of the Town of Biscoe.
On April 5, 1995, the newest piece of apparatus, a 1995 KME Renegade Pumper-Tanker, was dedicated in honor of retired Chief, D.C. Deaton for his many years of service as a Fire Chief and Mayor of the Town of Biscoe.
The Town of Biscoe is located near the geographic center of the state of North Carolina. Two major highways intersect in Biscoe. The primary east-west route is NC Highway 24-27, which is a major connection between Charlotte and the Raleigh-Fayetteville area. The main north-south route is Interstates 73/74 and US Highway 220, which is a part of the designated corridor to connect the Great Lakes area of the United States to the South Carolina Grand Strand and Charleston, SC area.
Biscoe is a progressive, growing community that is a good place to live. Some may think that we are in the middle of nowhere. On the contrary, we are in the middle of everything. The beaches and the mountains are only three short hours away. Major metropolitan communities are only about an hour in each direction. The Golf Capital of the World, Pinehurst, is only a thirty minute drive, as are the Yadkin/Pee Dee River Lakes areas, Uwharrie National Forest (North Carolina's Central Park!), the North Carolina Zoo, Seagrove Potteries, and much, much more!
We are proud of our Community, and our Fire Department. We are pleased to bring you this information.
