Our First Germany Immigrant

Gottlieb Sebastian August WALLRABENSTEIN

He was born March 29, 1813 in Laufenselden amt Schwalbach, Hesse-Nassau, Germany, and died November 30, 1871 in Ackerville, Washington County, Wisconsin (buried in Faith Cemetery, Ackerville). According to the church records at Laufenselden, his father was Johann George WALLRABENSTEIN (resident & oxen driver) and his mother was Maria Magdalena born FUCHS.

Gottlieb's original farmhouse in Ackerville, town of Polk, Washington County, Wisconsin is the background photo.

Thanks to:
Wijnand Wallrabenstein, from the Netherlands branch, who found Gotlieb Wallrabenstein's name in the Wiesbaden Emigrant Register (along with a Johann Georg Wallrabenstein, who was born in 1784 in Laufenselden)
and Edward Lehman, who sent me over 4 pages of Wallrabenstein records from Faith Lutheran Church in Ackerville.

Gottlieb Wallrabenstein married:

(1) Magdalena GLOMB before 1836 in Laufenselden, Kunton Longenschwalbbast, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. One son: Jacob Christian b. June 22,1836

(2) Johanetta QUINT after 1837 in Germany. Children: Louis, Gottlieb, Magdalena, Anton & Peter. The last two were born in Wisconsin. She was born in 1812 in Dreschdorf (or Doersdorf) Konigsreich in Nassau and died August 9, 1895 Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin. She is buried in Faith Cemetery in Ackerville (no stone). We are considering a Memorial Stone to be placed in the cemetery at our next reunion (hopefully) in 2002, commemorating our common ancestor.
