Spring 2000 vacationDuring the spring of 2000 we spent a nice vacation in the Cortez, Co area. I flew with Delta Airlines to Salt Lake City. I was worried about how this trip would turn out since this was my first time flying with the dogs. Delta Airlines really made everything so easy and this is how we're going to travel from now on. In Salt Lake City I rented a minivan and drove down to Cortez, CO. We stopped by Dinosaur Nat'l Park but arrived too late so on we went. The second day we crossed over Molas Pass, Co. I did a lot of exploring of many of the old ruins around Cortez. On the hot days I left the dogs in the motel room. The Anasazi Motor Inn is a very nice motel that allows pets. They have a large grassy area in the back to walk the dogs. Beyond that are some fields were Gommie would have been happy to spend the rest of her life Prairie Dog hunting. We hiked some very nice trails about an hour northeast of Cortez called the West Mancos trails. I was amazed at how well Gommie did considering she'd just had an operation 4 days earlier to remove two lumps which turned out to be cancerous but the vet is confident she's removed all the malignant cells. There are so many monuments and parks within a couple hours drive of Cortez that I still did not get a chance to see them all. So I'm already planning my return trip next year. There also was a dog show one weekend. I had Luge entered in conformation and Utility in obedience. He didn't do well at all in utility and I pulled him the next 2 days. It was his first try at utility and I didn't want to sour him on it. We met Annette and her Groenendael Sonny the second day. It was very nice to go into the ring with 2 very confident and outgoing dogs.
