and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying,

for the men that were with me saw not the vision;
but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves."

And I fell at his feet to worship him, And he said unto me,
See thou do it not:
I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have testimony of Jesus:
worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Then he saith unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant,
and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book:
worship God.

The angels are the dispensers and administrators
of the Divine beneficence toward us;
they regard our safety, undertake our defense,
direct our ways and exercise a constant solicitude
that no evil befall us.

John Calvin

But if these beings guard you,
they do so because they have been summoned by your prayers.

Saint Ambrose
