Freeman Ussery of Wilcox Co, AL sold to Starke Hunter 79 acres described as located in Section 36, Township 13, Range 9 located in Dallas Co, AL on Aug. 30, 1837. Security is provided by Benjamin Moore, [her son-in-law] and Alexander Gaston.[FN] On April 20, 1844 the same information as above except, security is provided by Alexander Gaston & Ezekiel Gaston. [Note: Son-in-Law Benjamin Moore died ca 1843] On April 25, 1845 the same information as above except, security is provided by James R. Grace [?] and William J. Ussery, Ann & Freeman's oldest son.
#10. March 19,1849, Wilcox County, Alabama: "Ann Ussery Widow of Freeman Ussery, deceased and files her petition to the court alleging that she is the widow of Freeman Ussery. That she is entitled to her dower or one third part of a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Wilcox and known as the North West fourth of the North East fourth of Section Twenty-nine. Also the South Half of the North East fourth of Section Twenty-nine all in Township Twelve and Range Nine and in the district of Land subject to sale at Cahanba Ala, whereof the said Freeman Ursery during their intermarriage, was seized and possessed in fee simple."
#11. Ann Ussery was granted her dower in another document which is not dated but was probably filed in April, 1849. This document also names Ann and Freeman's children as follows:
"...that she [Ann Ussery] is the administratrix of the goods & chattels, rights & credits of the said Freeman Ursry and that Robert Ursry, William J. Ursry, E. Catherine Gaston, Lucinda L. Pratt and John T. Ursry are the children and the heirs at law of the said Freeman Ursry, deceased, who have arrived at full age & Autha T. Ursry, Andrew J. Ursry & Isaah J. Ursry are minor heirs of the said Freeman Ursry. Wherefore Petitioner ...??.. her dower in the before described tract of land may be allotted to her, Ann Ursry."
[NOTE: This last documents names all the known children of Ann and Freeman Ussery as of 1849. It would appear the family is clearing up legal matters in preparation for the move to Ouachita Co, Ark.]
#12. Freeman and Ann Ussery's son Arthur T. Ussery is listed on the 1860 Census for Ouachita Co, Ark 2 times - once with his brother Robert's family and once with the Minerva Newman Family.
There is a Civil War Diary written by Joseph E. Gaston while in a Union Prison - Camp Butler, Springfield, Ill. in which he list some of the Ouachita Co, Ark soldiers captured at Fort Donelson, KY Feb 16, 1862, namely: [FN]

#5. Ann Ussery's Estate Papers were filed March 6, 1875 in Ouachita Co, AR. It appears Ann died intestate. Her son Andrew is acting administrator and is the only name mentioned in any of the papers. Andrew received approval of his final settlement Accounts on Jan. 9, 1877. With these papers is a property tax receipt made out to Ann Ussery and dated Feb 10, 1875. This could indicate she died between Feb. 10 and March 6, 1875? [FN]13, 14, 15, 16 Children from this marriage were:

#3. Lucinda Lurico Ussery married third, Thomas Estes, Dec. 8, 1867 in Hopkins Co., Tex. [FN] Thomas Estes had two sons from a previous marriage, Legrand and Leander, which were raised by Lucinda, but Thomas and Lucinda didn't have any children. Minnie (Cato) Pratt said Thomas Estes was Lucinda's brother-in-law. All the Pratt Children Called Thomas Estes "Father Estes." Both Thomas and Lucinda may be buried in a small cemetery close to Miniter, Lamar Co, Tex.
#4. The following data appears to pertain to Thomas Estes: Thomas J. Estes married Harriet J. Stanley, Oct. 2, 1861 in Hunt Co., Tex. I believe this is the same Thomas Estes who married Lucinda (Ussery) Pratt. Harriet J. Stanley was the widow of John C. Stanley and the sister of William T. Pratt the 2nd husband of Lucinda Ussery. This confirms the above statement of Minnie Cato Pratt that "Thomas Estes was Lucinda's brother-in-law."
Lucinda married Benjamin T. Moore, son of Moses Moore, on February 1, 1840 in Wilcox County, Alabama19. Children from this marriage were:

I believe Freeman shown as a son is actually Robert Ussery's son and Andrew's step-son. Could be an error by the census taker or by the abstracter of this record and this census needs to be re-read.
If I am correct about Freeman being Robert Ussery's son then Robert must have died some time between 1867 and 1873 when Caroline may have married for the 2nd time.
