Who was Capt. William Ussary? To date, the names of his parents or his ancestors have not been revealed. What is known of him, which is very little, has been gleaned from public records. He is documented in the Annals of Platte County, Missouri by Wm. Paxton, 1897 as being born in Tennessee (possibly around 1795) and having died in Platte County in September 1846. After marrying Phoebe Snodderly (in Tennessee), he moved his family to Platte Co., MO in 1837, settling near New Market. It is believed by some researchers that he made a stop over in Kansas City, MO in 1833.
Phoebe was the daughter of John Snodderly and Elizabeth Gibbs. She was born about 1799 and died February 16, 1875. She and William are buried in the New Market Cemetery in Platte Co., MO.
