KathyL - Keeper of the Memories

Hey! That's me!

My current Chips Score (0711/99) : 5,969,260

Being as how this is my site, you can read about me at the 'About Us' page . Here I'll explain my relationship with little Chip.

About 10 years ago I developed an obsession for Nintendo games, mostly RPG's such as Zelda, Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. Folks kept telling me how much better the games that were available on PC's were, so I started to break down.  I had been working at MIT on electronic spread sheets for years, but was clueless when it came to PC's . (phobic actually)

When I finally broke down completely in March of 1996 and let my husband buy me a PC from Gateway, it was as foreign to me as all that stuff that's under the hood of my car. Determined to join the 90's, I learned what a desktop was, learned to move a mouse around and click on little pictures everywhere, got to know just about every systems support person at Gateway on a buddy basis and eventually found this 'little' game called Chips Challenge that Gateway had so kindly pre-installed for me.

I was hooked immediately, telling myself and my family I was just using Chip's Challenge to 'get better' at learning to control that darn mouse thing. Once I hit level 9, the graph paper came out and I never looked back.

Level 25 was driving me nutz, so I signed up as an msn member, with the sole purpose of trying to find help with Chip's Challenge. Clumsily I surfed around within the Microsoft network, a woman with a mission, and my persistence paid off. I finally found a bulletin board devoted to the Microsoft Entertainment pack games and there within I found folks talking about Chip's Challenge! Yes!  Help at last! I must have read every message that had ever been posted on that board about Chip's Challenge, carefully printing each one out and saving them in a special folder I created just for Chip's hints. I continued to save all hints I found and ended up with a formidable list of hints. It was this compulsive little habit I developed that resulted in my being named the "Keeper of the Memories" among the Charter Chipsters, a name I accept with great pride.

I was finally out of level 25 and was also a full fledge fan of those helpful folks on the board. I could almost see Alice, Christina, Maybelle, John , Barbara  and the others on the other side of my screen when I posted my various pleas for help. Since that fateful day, I have become  much more familiar with Cyberspace and love surfing the net. I' became absorbed in some On-line games such as the Broken Line ,Netwits and Scrawl. But I've always found my way home to Chip's and the board. My current score on Chip's is shown up top, but there are still many levels I need to 'go bold' on. (That's Charter Chipsterese for hitting the top posted score for a level) .

I plan to be playing with Chip for a long time to come yet, especially considering all the new level highs that Ruben and Kevin have been creating for us. ;-)   It's a great game and the folks who love to play it are greater still.
