The dogs are Shelby, a Shetland Sheepdog (also known as a Sheltie), and Beatty (short for Beethoven), a Jack Russell Terrier. Chips background: I found Chips while working as a System Administrator in a Windows 3.1 environment. It had already been installed on the computer of the person before me. I began playing more and more until I finally finished the game about 3 months later! I was always so glad when the game let me skip a tough level, and I began to keep track of the passwords. Oddly enough, I only found level 145 by accident - the person before me had been named "TONY", and I was trying everything I could think of to get to that level! I finished with a score somewhere over 5 million.Since then, I changed jobs and got hold of another copy of Chips. Of course, I left my ENTPACK.INI file at the old job, and I didn't feel like playing for all the passwords again. I had Internet access by this time, so I did a search on "Chip's Challenge" and "Code" and found some sites with level codes. That saved some time getting started again, but one of those sites was the "Chip's Plus" site created by Alice Voith and made so great by all the Charter Chipsters. The times on the high score list were a great challenge to me - I knew I could get at least 5.587 million plus, so I set up an Excel spreadsheet and began to reach for the top. I got up around 5.968 million by October of 1997, when Alice got busy and the site wasn't updated until April of 1998. I set a few high scores in that time, and was anxiously awaiting the new High score update. My first high score was level 35, where I first got a high, only to find that I had been preceded by LimoJohn. I worked harder and got beyond the new high score, and just kept pressing until I churned out the 570 that still stands today. That lit the fire under me that there were still high scores to be made, in spite of the almost unbelievable scores I was seeing. Of course, once the site was updated, I discovered that Ruben had found his way to the Chips corner of the world, and many, many high scores would fall from that one simple event! My current score is shown up top, and I have several big gaps to make up in the "random" levels. Good Luck with The Quest!! not that we're counting or anything, but... . (Since 6-02-98) :) |
