    GARLAND, Elisha. b. in 1763 and died in 1836. He was born in Halifax Co., NC and lived in Davidson County, TN, outside of Nashville. During the Revolutionary War, Elisha enlisted as private at the age of 14 in the 3rd Regiment of the North Carolina Continental Line. He married Lucy Reeves on 12/14/1783. Lucy was the sister of Charlotte REEVES ROBERTSON, wife of James ROBERTSON, founder of Nashville. Elisha and Lucy GARLAND had the following children: Elisha Jr, Charlotte, Sally, Polly, Lucy, Elizabeth, William, Jesse, Kitty, Delilah, Martha, Orville.     James A. (Jim) GARLAND: born 4/13/1877 (place unknown). He married Martha Edith Lineback in Caruthersville, Pemiscot CO, MO on 7/14/1920. He was in prison for a period of time for killing a man who was robbing his whiskey still. When he was released from prison, he lived on a houseboat on the Mississippi River at Fort Adams which is south of Vidalia, LA. He went into a nursing home in Madison, MS (when unknown) and died approximately 1953. He is buried in the Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, MS. While in the nursing home, he was chosen "Father of the Day" and had his picture and an article about him in the Natchez Democrat. His features included black hair and blue eyes. His parents were John GARLAND and Elizabeth WRIGHT, both born in Ireland, but by 1881 Census were living at 55 Wigton Street, Glasgow. In 1891 Census still there but Elizabeth McCORMICK was listed as widow, head of household as John was not listed. Their children were James c1867, Thomas c1870, Mary Ann c1872, John c1874, all born in Ireland and Sarah c1882 born Lanarkshire Glasgow. James married Agnes WELDON 0n 22-4-1889 in Glasgow. Their children were John, James, Thomas (b1893 in Glasgow), Catherine (b1897 in Glasgow) Percy, William, Joseph (my father b1904 in Dublin), Patricia and Florence, not necessarily in that order.     Malinda Garland born ca 1818 in South Carolina. Malinda Married Thomas Price b ca 1818 South Carolina. I found them in the 1840 Edgefield District South Carolina Census records with their two children: Thomas Garland Price b. August 1, 1837 and Daniel Price born 1839. I have been unable to locate them before this time. They migrated to Mississippi and were listed in the Oktibbeha County Mississippi Census in 1850. Written in the Garland Family Bible located in the Library of Virginia is "William died on board a British prison ship in New York in 1782." The name of his first wife is unknown to me, but they had a son, Thomas, born abt 1843. He then married Margaret Trosper (my ancester) before 21 September 1850 where on the 1850 Census of Boone County, Kentucky, she was listed as 16 years old and his wife.     GARLAND, Henry. I am researching my family history. I go back to 18 may 1832 with the birth of Henry Edwin Garland. His mother was Mary Bell and father Edwin Potter. Mr Potter died at sea and Mary married Henry Garland. The child took the name of his stepfather. He then married Margaret Coffey on 14 October 1856. She was the daughter of John Coffey and Helen Glasheen (both Irish). Does this link up with anything that anyone knows? This is all London based as far as I know.     Melvina Augusta Garland born January 12, 1834, in Sandwich, NH. Her father was George T. Garland and mother Betsy on the marriage document that was in the Civil War records. Melvina died October 23, 1893, in New York, New York in our records from the Widow's pension. I found a Betsey Garland who died Oct. 1, 1847 at 73 years in the Maplewood Cemetery at Salisbury, NH. Salt Lake City Family History Library Microfilm # 0015575. I don't think this would be her mother as she would have been 60 at the time of her birth. I did find a George T. Garland on the 1840 Census of Sandwich in Strafford County NH. He had: 1 males 5-10 yrs. 1 males 10-15 yrs. 1 males 50-60 2 women under 5 1 woman 5-10 1 woman 15-20 1 woman 20-30 1 woman 30-40 This could be her family.
