Born, Peterboro, N. H., April 6, 1739.
At the commencement of the war
he was appointed major in the Continental service.
Was with the regiment formed in Peterboro and vicinity
which was summoned to Charleston
at the time of the battle of Bunker Hill.
As soon as possible he enlisted 200 men, started for Charleston,
seventy miles distant, and marching day and night,
arrived the day after the battle.
The major shared all the hardships of the expedition
with the soldiers by footing it with them.
