There were two Bussell families that settled in Hancock County, Indiana. One in Center Township and one in Brown Township. I descend from the Brown Township Bussells. It is believed that the 2 families are related, but the lineage hasn't been traced back far enough to be sure. I do have information on the other Bussell family, who came from Pennsylvania. One couple listed is Samuel and Sarah (MORGAN) Bussell.
My Bussell ancestors were from North Carolina. There was a mistake made on the following census: 1850 census, Brown Twp., Hancock County, IN
156-159 William Bussell 50 farmer SC
Christina 46 wife VA
Martin P. 23 farmer SC
Sally 20 SC
Elihu 18 farmer Ind.
John Thomas 11 Ind.
Newton Caldwell 14 Ind.
William Bussell married Christina Caldwell, 23, Nov. 1841, Hancock Co., IN Bk 2 page 34.
Hancock Co., IN probate order book #1 1853-1857 page 147- William Bussell, guardian of William, Sally, Elihu and John Thomas, minor heirs of Abigail Bussell, deceased, makes settlement with Sally and Elihu, now of age. 23, Aug. 1853. -- Abigail Bussell's maiden name was CASS.
Martin P. Bussell is mentioned as being William Bussell's son in William's will, dated 31, Oct. 1853.
