Jessie Ann Clark was born in Marykirk, Kincardineshire in November of 1835. She was the oldest daughter of William Clark and Jane Sheret.
At the time of the 1861 census, Jessie was living in Montrose working as a cook in the home of Edward Gordon. On June 10, 1864 she married
Edward Lennox Steel in Garvock, Kincardineshire. Edward was a widower who had lost his first wife and infant child some six years earlier. The couple were parents to five children: Eliza Jane born April 04, 1865 in Monfieth, Angus, Jessie Ann born March 07, 1867 also in Monfieth and died July 01, 1867, Margaret born August 10, 1868 in Dundee,
David born September 29, 1870 and died January 07, 1878 in Dundee, and Mary born January 22, 1872 and died January 26, 1872 in Dundee.
Jessie Ann Clark died of small pox (variola) on January 26, 1872 and is buried in the Steel family lair at Eastern Cemetery, Dundee along with her three children who died during childhood.
