John Benson Chapter

Hartwell, Georgia


 

 

The John Benson Chapter was organized on March 12, 1913, in Hartwell, Georgia. As the county seat of Hart County, named for Revolutionary War heroine Nancy Hart, the town has a long history as a center of agriculture and the textile industry. Tourism is a recent addition with the development of beautiful Lake Hartwell. Hartwell is located about 40 miles northeast of Athens, Georgia.

DAR is a service organization, founded in 1890. The objectives and activities are Historical, Educational and Patriotic.
The members are women, at least 18 years of age, who have proven lineal descent from Revolutionary War Soldiers or Patriots.
