Jake
And The Missing Keys
Jake was always
hiding keys from his Mom and Dad. For example, last week Jake thought it
would be funny to bury Dad’s car keys underneath a pile of junk. Just as
Jake had planned, when they were getting ready to leave for his little
sister’s dance class they could not find the keys so they ended up being
fifteen minutes late. Today Jake had a soccer game, so he thought
it would be hilarious to hide Mom’s keys under her red and yellow stripped
bed. When his Mom started looking stressed, Jake couldn’t help laughing
inside. Jake thought it was so funny to watch his Mom run around like an
animal. When his Mom could not find her keys she said "I guess we just
can’t go to your soccer game." Jake didn’t feel worried but he still
darted upstairs to get the keys but they were not where he had put them.
When he could not find them his mind started clicking like a computer.
How, who, when, where, what, why. With no answers to his questions Jake
walked slowly downstairs as if he had just been defeated in a tournament.
He sat on the couch. This all happened because Mom had secretly watched
Jake hide the keys in the morning and thought I’d better teach him a lesson.
She had taken the keys and hidden them from Jake. Jake did not get to go
to his soccer game and from that day on Jake has never hidden a key in
his life.
