Changing The Typical Role of your Computer

Windows 95 & 98

Not for Laptops.

1. Right Click My Computer.

2. Down to Properties and click
3. Click on the Performance tab
4. Click on the File system button
5. Change Typical role of this computer to Network server in the drop down list
6. Look at the Read ahead optimization, Make sure the slider is all the way to the right next to Full
7. (For Windows 98 only) Now click on the floppy disk tab
8. (For Windows 98 only) Un-check the box Search for new floppy disk drives each time your computer starts.

9. Click OK, and click OK again

This makes your computer boot a little bit faster and makes it so it won't search to see if you installed

a new type of floppy disk Drive to your system each time it boots up.

Changing the typical role of this computer from desktop to network

will give you a small boost in horsepower so to speak.
