Friendly Sunbird

Sunbird

Sunbirds are small, brightly coloured, nectar-feeding birds.  Their bills are often long and downcurved, a special design for feeding at flowers.  Their voice are sharp and metallic, loud, high pitched, fast and tinkling.  Sometimes, I saw my bird spread out his tubular, thread-like tongue to catch insects.  Accurate and fast!  =D

I hadn't given any name to my Sunbird.  He had been bred by an old man for 2 years until the breeder was very sick...  He changed breeder.  Within 2 weeks, none of all 3 different breeders like his song!  The last breeder sent him to me.  He was so friendly! Never hesitated to greet people with his special voice.  Active and curious.   His attitude was as good as my Canaries.  In return, I provided what I think best to him. =)

Sunbird and flower

But, no matter how good the food I provided, the more I saw his good flight (even can hold stable in the middle air) the more I felt 'guilty' to cage a wild bird.  He belongs to the natural world.  He should catch insects and choose flowers on his own.  After a serious consideration, one Summer morning I let him free in a country park.  Being fed for years, he might not know how to survive in the natural, but I thought he worth to have freedom at least a while than none.  Though, I miss him...
