"Butterfly" Stepping Stones
What you'll need
Plaster of Paris, or Faster Plaster* (Made by Plaid and sold at craft stores like Michaels)
A large round container like an ice cream bucket- some thing you can throw out after
Water
Spray acryilic(clear)
Sticks (popsicle sticks or another clean disposable item.)
Modelling compound or "clay".
Some little hands and feet (attatched to a patient helper).
What To Do
Before starting make sure the little hands and feet are clean.
Read the instructions on the plaster and measure out the appropriate amount of water and plaster BEFORE you begin.
Decide where you would like your "butterfly" you may want to leave room top, bottom or on the side for personalizing.
place a layer of the modelling compound in the bucket and have your helper put the heels of their hands together and press into the "clay" to form the tops of the butterflies wings. Repeat this step only with their feet. The heels of the foot prints should overlap the bottom of the hand prints.
" Draw a body for your butterfly using a stick
If you wish to personalize your stepping stone scratch some words (like the date, name, age etc.) around the butterfly with your stick .
Mix your plaster and pour over the clay until it's about 1 to 1&1/2 inches thick.
Follow the instructions on the package for drying time. Spray with clear acrylic to seal and place outside in the garden. You don't have to spray it but if you use plaster the rain will erode it. Another option might be to use a cement of some variety.I advise checking with a builder supply place.
