To start I'm going to tell you where this idea came from. Last year for mother's day my kids all made me a gift at day care. My baby -who was 9 months old at the time- painted a tiny flower pot for me and the teachers put a little Begonia in it. So this year for my mother's birthday we (my kids and I ) expanded on the idea, and this was the results.
What you will need:
A terra cotta (clay or ceramic) flowerpot
Acrylic or some other permanent Paint
Premanent marker
Assorted trinkets-ie. rickrack, beads, fake jewels, beads etc.
Glue
Acrylic spray to seal your work- I prefer matte finish.
What to do
Paint the pot with the base color of your choice. We chose white.*note- dark colors will be harder to paint over.
Choose your design. We went with the kids hand prints, easy! You could use any design. If it is a gift and the recipient has a theme in their kitchen you could choose that ie. ivy, or cows? If you are not artistically inclined you can purchase stencils or trace the pattern onto your pot.
When your base paint is dry paint on your design.
With white glue or a hot glue gun glue on any accessories. We used a ribbon around the top, you could use anything- raffia might be nice on a country theme. You may even decide to skip the painting step and just decorate with beads or fake flowers etc.
With the permanent marker be sure to sign your name and the year some where on the pot- if you don't it want to be obvious put it on the bottom- After all you did a lot of work and you want people to remember who made this fine piece of art! I also added the children's names and ages on the pot since it was for their grandma. Oh yeah! I almost forgot, don't forget to spray your pot with the acrylic spray, it will keep the paint from coming off and protect the accessories.
