P.O. Box 191261, Dallas TX 75219, U.S.A. Reunion Survey Answers 1999
1) What are you doing now?
Two activities dominate my life at this point in time. First, a couple of years after leaving Hong Kong I took a summer (that's all it was supposed to be) job working for Toys 'R' Us here in the US. I am still working for them now in Inventory Control at the Regional Office located in Carrollton, TX. The other activity is school. After having to take some time off from school, I finally returned to finish my degree this past year at Southern Methodist University (SMU). I take classes part time at night, while working full time during the day.
2) Are you married? When? Kids? How old?
Nope.
3) Most exciting thing to happen to you since we graduated.
That's a hard one. Off the top of my head one of the first things to come to mind is my acceptance into SMU last summer. There are other things that have been exciting, momentous, or profound during the past few years, but looking into the future this is probably the most important that I am prepared to discuss in an open forum of this sort.
4) Any graduate work?
Not at this time, and currently no plans to do so in the future.
5) Who do you most want to contact from our class/expect to see at the reunion?
There are several people that I want to see, not one single person that stands out. However, I guess I am most anxious to see those people that I was in school with for several of my years at HKIS; those people who were in my classes from before we actually entered high school, stretching back all the way to sixth grade.
6) Funniest memory from HKIS?
There are many, but one does stand out as both funny and embarrassing. I was in one of Mr. Baker's drama classes and we had prepared a readers theatre piece that we performed in front of several classes in one day. At the end of the last performance of the day I squatted down leaning against the front wall of the classroom. As I did so, the entire crotch of my pants split open. I know it's not much, but for some reason that event does stand out in my mind right now.
7) What was you "Ten Years From Now?"...Did it happen?
"Will be making ceramics exclusively for Toys 'R' Us." Well, I'm not making ceramics for them (or anyone at this point, unfortunately), but I am working for them again, responsible for the distribution of some of their exclusive product. I guess you could say it was half right.
8) Now that we've grown up, are you what you wanted to be? What do you want to be?
I don't think a particular profession was ever part of my life goals, and it still isn't to this day. I haven't ended up like I wanted to be yet, but I am still working for it. When it comes to work, my primary goal is to have a job that I am comfortable with, allows me to live comfortably, and that I can actually leave at work and not bring home all the time. My real goals lie in other directions: to enjoy life to the fullest, sharing it with someone, continuing to have new experiences and to grow as a person, not living life in fear.
9) Favourite HKIS teacher? Least favourite?
Without a doubt I would have to say that my all time favourite was Ms. B (Mrs. Maakestad). If teachers are welcome to attend our reunions, I would sincerely hope that she graces us with her presence. There were several other teachers I really liked and vie for a close second, but she would have to take the place as most favourite. Unfortunately, I do have someone I can list as my least favourite, though he only taught at HKIS during our senior year, Mr. Coombs.
10) How many cities have you lived in since graduation?
There have been five, though I kind of wish I had lived in more places in the past 10 years. They are: Pensacola, FL; Arkadelphia, AR; Abilene, TX; San Angelo, TX; and Dallas, TX.
