Sky was my first Chow as well as my first Champion. I can still see his sweet little face the first time I saw him. It was early in the year and I had been studying Chows at the shows, learning all I could because I had decided I wanted to show something different than the German Shepherds I had been showing. The ankles and knees just couldn't handle all that running around the ring and I wanted a breed that I could handle myself. Chows seemed like the perfect breed. Yeah, nothing like going from the most angulated to the least! I had looked at a number of litters and prospective show puppies but nothing clicked until I met Sherrie. At the show she gave me a small photo of a puppy that looked like he had a perm! She said he was from a litter of 3 and he was for sale. Something in that baby's face told me he was the one. I made an appointment to go to Sherrie's home after the Chows were shown that day. Well I showed up but Sherrie didn't so I drove around and came back, then drove around some more and came back and eventually met up with Sherrie. Years later Sherrie confessed to me that she had gone to breakfast and a few other places hoping that I would not be there as she really didn't want to part with this puppy. We all know how this turned out! That day I got to see Hannibal and Holly as little babies - what a knockout litter this was. I also got to meet Sherrie's big black boy - CH CHERIE'S BLACKGAMMON. He was huge with coat dripping to the ground, extremely impressive and at that time I decided that I was going to have a black Chow someday too. Sherrie, Jan and I became friends and I have cherished their friendship all these years. Sherrie has always bred to the standard, no matter what type was winning in the ring, and I have tried to follow her lead.

Sky was a great companion as well as show dog. He finished at 9 month of age, the last to finish of the litter. While obtaining his championship, twice he went BOB from the classes over the top specials in the US. Always owner handled. As a special I did use the services of some professional handles: Frank Cresci and Auggie Panelli.

Sky was used with only a few bitches and produced some lovely puppies.
