“It is fire, it is water, it is the earth, the air, and the sea. It has all the qualities of stone and passion, and it knows the change of truth to lie. But there is one thing it is not; it is not love. “No love.” he appeared to slump, though his dignity was strong and his posture was bright and polite. i wonder if he would have cried, had he too the quality of stone and passion, but he did not. his cold reasoning and fiery speech were built on the foundations of solitude and premeditated oration, not on runes and strong emotion. perhaps his nature was entirely different than he pretended it to be, but on with my tale. ========== In the beginning Christ walked with the newly born children of Ubuttrus after the dark age of tyrannical Elite rule, and the children of God were returned unto the ancient citadel of their ancestors. A generation has passed, twenty-eight for my race, and not many still believe. The story is now considered legend, and, in their hearts, all the people still seek for what it contains but no more than a few will yet dare insinuate the tale as truth. I was born in the 1973rd year of the New Regime, and it is now the year 2000. These are my tales with the brave Erin Jake, Rythmmaster and kinetic, now proven to be Worldwalker as well, who has come to Ubuttrus to love us as our saviour Christ loves us, but, more specifically, to have a good time doing such. There are many things that could be said to the purpose of explaining that we have met, but there is no true merit in this, and we shall have done with it. Instead, i shall say that Jake (as he prefers to be called from among his many other aliases) is a very persistent and stubborn man, willing to break his neck for the good of what he loves. And he is nosey, very nosey. Many men have these qualities, i am made certain by experience, but Jake is devoutly applied to expedient use of these skills in ways unlike any other man or angel i have known of ever. Jake is an honest man, forced to be such by the fact that any lie he might tell is inexplicably obvious, which often brings him great mirth, and so he does lie, but for humor's sake alone. No, i am wrong; i have witnessed him lie in seriousness; i can only speculate as to why, and my speculation is that he in some small way knows the sentient nature of curiousity that is found among obvious lie. That is why he brought the seven Terrans to Ubuttrus, i believe. During the Fringe War, the war which began the Elite's second to last struggle to retain their stifling power (followed immediately by the Purging War and Banishings), most of the disdained Elite were killed, among them were innocent Elite children and guilty Elite children, women Elite, men Elite, and the reputed demon-Elite. Banned were the psychic and magical skills of Resurrection, Archiving, Assassination, Worldwalking, Voidwalking, Mentalism, Psychokinetics, Dimensionwalking, and all forms of action which could be or were imposed on the people of Ubuttrus during the Elite rule, also known as the Old Regime. This, however, does not mean that children were not born with these skills, neither were children hidden from knowing of the Elite rule, nor of knowing the stories and personalities of several of the key members of the clans in the Old stories and personalities of several of the key members of the clans in the Old Regime, if they chose to learn such. The last may have been a foolish idea, some are beginning to think. The children born with these skills have been easily trained upon discovering their skill; the teaching of the Old Regime lifestyle is a good lesson to learn by, both morally and strategically; but apparently no one had considered that one, such as Crosley, might attain feelings which i am hesitant to call love for one of the dead, yet not unresurrectable, Old Elite. And this may not have been such an entirely bad thing had Crosley not also had the power of Resurrection, the strong will to elude training, the want of great evil for our society, and not-understood power to hide his actions from the Will. Crosley has a twisted sense of justice, so it should have been no surprise when he felt sympathy for the most bitter member of the recorded Elite, the one who believed herself most persecuted although the one who persecuted her was herself. Yenoi could have been very powerful and happy had she not chosen to see her brother's popularity as a reason for hate. And, had the Fringe War not occurred, it is believed that she would have embittered herself to the point of destroying completely all her own powers. As it happened, she had been dropped down in the ranks of Elite and only not entirely dismissed because of the skills which she once had, but then was killed in the opening skirmishes of the war. At any rate, Crosley apparently also felt that she had been wronged in their Elite society, but that he could make a plan to enable her to be treated fairly. And so, out of love Crosley murdered five Will members to weaken their ability to monitor, stop, and punish him, then resurrected Yenoi who immediately proceeded to kill another 30 members, crippling the Will with every intention of finishing the job once she regained her full strength. Of course, this action of multiple homicide did alert the Will to danger, but, unfortunately, they were mostly unprepared to compensate for such a great loss in their number unless several years were given to them--which they were certain would not happen. I don't know how Jake found out about these goings on, but his first course of action was to run out and fight Yenoi in her post-murder weakened state. This, from what i have heard, became a fiasco in short order, through both obtaining their mark in magical and psychic melee. Jake fled to Terra with what could easily have been a mortal wound, and, though i tend to think his site of arrival on Terra was planned well in advance, miraculously managed to secure the type of aid he needed to save himself. It is obvious that those who saved Jake's life must have been chosen in advance because Jake immediately set out to bring them back to Ubuttrus in order that they might aid him in killing Yenoi before she could kill anymore of the Will and/or secure another Elite hierarchy. Naturally he did not tell the Terrans any of this situation before he had them convinced that they were stranded on Ubuttrus. Here i feel i must quickly defend Jake on three points. The first being that Jake did in fact connive to murder Yenoi, which it is no longer believed that he actually did; Jake would rather have killed Yenoi than see many millions of others be killed, and he wanted to be the one to do it so that no one else would have to face ethical mental problems over it. Secondly, there was trickery involved in bringing the first batch of (five) Terrans to Ubuttrus; this was because he felt the matter too important to risk the Terrans deciding not to help us. And lastly, something which is obvious in an obtuse way, is Jakes constant use of the illegal skill of Worldwalking; Jake's skill has never been detected on Ubuttrus, even though he did eventually get caught by other means, and has only been used for the betterment of Ubuttrus, not Jake. All are weak defenses, but i would not feel right leaving them unmentioned. At any rate, Jake brought the Terrans to his inn, The Flametail, for 'dinner', and summoned me. I happened to be on leave from Surutt Institution and, being a Rimerook, i have obligations to the public and the public has obligations to me. The public has a very willing obligation to supply me with my needs, should i ever be without, and i have an obligation to save all of society should i be called upon to do so. Jake was calling upon me to help him do so.
