Delirium's Genealogy Page
To start, a couple of disclaimers:
- My name isn't actually Delirium. That's just the name that I've used for various accounts for genealogy purposes over the years.
- This page is a work in progress, and it will be quite some time before many of the links will work. Please be patient, and check back regularly.
- There will be very little identifying information here on currently living individuals. If you are related to the family, and would like information on them, please E-mail me. If you see someone on here who you know to be currently living, E-mail me, and I will remove identifying information about them.
- If you find anything that looks like an error, please let me know. I'm only human, and I probably won't get everything right the first time around!
Surnames are listed here. This is not a complete list, just some of the primary lines. I am working on genealogical research for two primary lines--my own (Vogel) and my brother-in-law's (Hagedorn). So there will be a lot of names, and not all of them are directly related to each other. Hopefully it will be clear enough, when I finally get some information here... :)
Here are some links that I use quite a bit, and might prove useful to you as well.
- Rootsweb - home of World Connect, a popular place for people to post their trees. My tree that is there (under the user name delirium) is rather out of date, and is primarily that of my ex-husband's family. I should update it sometime...
- GenWeb - an offshoot of Rootsweb, this site links to each of the states, which in turn link to each of the counties in said states. Some counties sites are wonderful, others are lacking, but the chances are pretty good that you can find something you're looking for.
- GenCircles - another site where people post their trees. This one has the very nifty "SmartMatch" feature, which will tell you when there is another family tree that has likely matches for a person you are looking at. It seems to work pretty well, though I've seen a couple of cases where the matches weren't accurate. I'm on there as delirium as well, but again, the tree is out of date.
- Ancestry - to get most of the good stuff here, you have to get a subscription. Pricey, but depending on where you live, it might be worth it.
- Family Search - a site run by the Mormons, they have a lot of excellent resources. I've found some of the information there to be a little bit off, so use with caution. (Then again, that applies to most sites!)
- Census-Online - a fairly comprehensive listing of which censuses are available online for FREE! In the case of the United States, sometimes you get very lucky with the county you're researching, and sometimes they have nothing. It's very hit and miss in that way, but if you are lucky, it's incredibly useful!
- Interment.net - a source that lists burials in a number of cemeteries around the world. Again, it's hit and miss as to whether or not there will be information you need, but there are a good number of cemeteries listed there.
- Illinois State Archives Databases - this is a source specific to the state of Illinois, but if you're doing research in that state, you will really appreciate all of the information you can find here. It often makes me wish that more states could have sources like this available online!
