W. H. S.
I STOOD AT THE DOORS OF WHHEELWRIGHT HIGH
AND TRIED TO SEE THRU THE TEARS IN MY EYES
THO I LOVE IT DEARLY, I MUST CONFESS
I SAW THE WORST, ALONG WITH THE BEST
THE PAINT NOW IS PEELING, THE WALL COMING DOWN
THE SIDEWALKS ARE BROKEN, I LOOK AND I FROWN
THE CLASSROOMS ARE EMPTY- WHERE ONCE THOUSANDS STOOD
THO IT'S ALMOST OVER, THE MEMORIES ARE GOOD
VOICES FROM CLASS NIGHTS OF LONG YEARS AGO
BASES FOR SOFTBALL, WHERE GRASS STILL WON'T GROW
SOUNDS OF THE BAND AND THE OLE SCHOOL SONG
CHEERLEADERS AND FANS, HELPING THE TROJANS ALONG
ROWS OF TROPHIES SO PROUDLY WON
TELL OF STUDENT DEEDS WELL DONE
AND NOW AS THE LAST YEAR BEGINS TO UNFOLD
EACH TREASURED MOMENT IN MY MEMORY I"LL HOLD
THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES? YES, I TRULY BELIEVE
THEN WHY THE LUMP IN MY THROAT AS I GRIEVE?
BECAUSE I KNOW THERE ARE MANY WHO CARE
A HUGE PART OF THEIR LIFE IS TIED RIGHT THERE
WE HAVE SMALL TOWN MEMORIES AND HOLD THEM DEAR
WE HAD THE BEST OF LIFE- NO REASON TO FEAR
SO MANY HAVE GONE, BUT THEY EACH LEFT A PART
WE HOLD SO CLOSELY- DOWN DEEP IN OUR HEART
LISTEN ONE LAST TIME, TO THE SOUNDS OF THE PAST
THINK OF THOSE WHO HELPED AS YOUR FUTURE WAS CAST
DON'T BE EMBARRASSED IF THE TEARS START TO FALL
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND WANDER-ONE LAST TIME DOWN THE HALL
I STAND AT THE DOORS OF WHEELWRIGHT HIGH
KNOWING THE CLOSING DAYS ARE NIGH
TO SOME YOU MEANT NOTHING, BUT THE REST
LIKE ME-IN THEIR HEART-YOU'LL ALWAYS BE THE BEST
