ADULT CHILDHOOD DREAMS
REALITY
At the age of three my
love of horses grew as I began riding lessons at a Michigan stable which housed a barn
full of the most beautiful American Saddlebred Horses As a student for the next 10
years, I rode the lesson horses and was not allowed in the barn with the show
horses. I admired the elegance of the show horses from a distance knowing owning and
showing a horse of such magnificence would only be a dream. I lived on wishes to own
a horse, a wish that came true in my teen years.
Lyda was purchased by my parents for the family and High was bought by my sister and
myself. They were pleasure horses, all our limited resourses would allow and
the reality of ever having an American Saddlebred Show Horse slowly faded away. But
I could not let go of my dream. After my formal schooling, I purchased a weanling
which I was to train and show. We grew up together and we did go to a few shows
together but the reality that we could not compete with elegant Saddlebred teams I
remembered from my childhood quickly set in. There was no longer life in the
dream. A little breeding and companionship was the best I could ask for and I found
myself content with only that. That was until unexpected events allowed my daughter
to own and show one of those elegant horses. It was a short partnership between my
daughter and our first true show horse but again dreams live to become reality.
Recently. another grand mare came our way.
Luhan's Vanity lady
Vanity was my first Saddlebred that I had hoped to take us to the show ring. As a weanling, she was shown in halter classes at many shows locally. As a two year old, she was shown at the Illinois State Fair and managed to come home with a ribbon. She continued to be shown a couple of times in the pleasure driving class. Due to an injury, she was retired from the show ring and was used for breeding. She had several colts and had one nice enough to take to a professional trainer.. Vanity, now my pet, is 23 years old. We trail ride together and she brings me peace in my life. With Vanity, I can escape all of the stresses that daily living offers.
Mister Vanity
Mister Vanity was her last colt. His trainer did a wonderful job with him. He was shown in pleasure classes and was eventually sold to an individual in St. Louis. He was a nice pleasure horse and he would still be with me if we did not have the opportunity to move on to something with more talent. Recently, it was brought to my attention that he won his class for his new rider at a show in Colunbia, Missouri.
A special thanks needs to go to Cryst-A Kell Farm, to trainer James Nichols and instructor Ellen Beard for leading us down the road of our dream. They have been the ones responsible for us acquiring our next show horses.
RWGC - WC Jewel of Dawn
Jewel of Dawn "Ruby"
was our first horse of our dream. She was with us a very short time but we were
honored to have been able to own this talented Three Gaited Mare.
Frances had only one show season with Ruby and this was Frances's first year showing in
the performance classes. Frances and Ruby brought home many ribbons which included
ribbons from the Lexington Junior League Championship and the World Championship show in
Louisville.
The Supremes
March 5, 1998 a successful
trip to Atlanta found our next show horse " The Supremes" now called
"Baby". She just turned four years old and James Nichols will start the
new show season showing her in the Junior Three-Gaited Class. Frances, my daughter
will then continue to show this lovely gifted mare in the juvenile classes. Look for
us in Louisville at the World Championship Show.
Come and look at our new "Baby" at this season's shows..
