A couple of years ago, a good friend, Liz Arnold re-introduced me to quilting. I had begun a sampler quilt over 10 years ago, and carefully put it away in a camphorwood box. I found all the patches, which thankfully had been completed, and Liz began the task of explaining and helping me to put the whole quilt together. It was quite fasinating.
Liz is the Editor of the West Australian Quilters Association
I now have the quilt together, though it is once again waiting for completion!
Joan's Quilt
In late 1995 I developed breast cancer. While recovering from this and having Radiotherapy, I made a small cot quilt for my new at that time grandson Joshuah. It was really great therepy, and helped me through a very traumatic time. This was compled in January 1996, and of course named Joshuah's Quilt.
Joshuah's Quilt
Quilting seems to make its own history. My daughter-in-law Rose, in early March of last year, wished to have a quilt made that she could pass on to her daughter, our grandaughter Andrea. As her time was very limited, due to her cancer, a group of friends from our community, myself, Liz Arnold, Sally, Margaret, and Rose's sister Nehning, all worked together and managed, in one week to machine sew a Bears Paw quilt. The backing was on, and it was ready to begin quilting. Rose managed to do some of the quilting before she became too ill to continue. Another of my many projects is to try to get to try to get this project completed. Since her death in April 1997, I have only managed to work a very short time on the her quilt.
I currently have two cot quilts in the making, a wall hanging, and have started a Baltimore queen sized quilt, which I am sure will keep me going for many years to come.
