The
Italian Greyhound is a unique breed that has been admired and fancied for
centuries. Once you have looked into the starry eyes of an IG, your life
will never be the same! They have the capacity of love that goes far
beyond the normal pet. The IG needs to be with its owner, if not on you
most of the time. They are a snuggly breed that will create a haven of
warmth however they can get it. They love attention and will do most
anything to get that attention. They are comical sorts that love to
smuggle things that belong to you into their private domain.
BEWARE
OF DOG!!! These dogs are not for just any owner! They are as fast as a
speeding bullet and can dart under you or under a visitor as quick as
the blink of an eye. They are not the best dogs for small children. Not
because they would hurt the child, but because the child may hurt them!
Needless to say, beware of dog is not for your safety but for the safety
of the delicate nature of the breed.
The
Italian Greyhound does take longer to housetrain than most breeds. Thus,
many IG's end up in Rescue looking for someone to give them the time and
consistency needed in housetraining. The IG is a very sensitive creature
that requires a soft hand and heart. They are not for the harsh spoken
or stern household. They love to be loved and adored!
