CHARLES S. GEORGE

C. S. GEORGE, Clerk of the Court and Probate Court, Searcy, AR, is well known to the residents of White Co., as one who in his relations with the public has proved himself faithful to the duties entrusted to him. He was born in Coahoma Co., MS on Jan., 1853,
The 4th of 8 children born to C. L. and Catherine (MCDERMOTT) GEORGE, natives of KY and OH respectively.
The parents were married at Helena, AR and later settled in MS where the father followed agricultural pursuits.
His father took an active part in politics, was Clerk of Phillips Co., AR, had been Assessor in the early days of the county and was Co. Judge of Coahoma Co., MS. In 1867 he moved to Lawrence Co., AR where he purchased an improved farm.
He moved to Searcy in 1876 and died there in 1881.
His wife survived him for a number of years.

C. S. GEORGE was reared on a farm and was educated in the schools of AR and MS.
He commenced for himself as Deputy Clerk of Lawrence Co., AR in 1871, served 2 years & moved to White Co. in 1876, locating in Searcy.
He then entered the office of Deputy County Clerk in 1880, served 8 years and in 1888 was elected on the Democratic ticket.
He has been connected with the records of the county longer than anyone else now living.
He is a member of the Masonic Lodge #49 in Searcy and also of the Tillman Chapter #19 R. A. M.

Mr. George was married in Searcy in 1880 to Martha B. ISBELL, a native of White Co.
Thier 2 children now living are Herbert L. & Leeland.
The deceased children were Lillie, who died in 1882
Charley whose death occurred in 1884.
Mr. GEORGE is a member of the Searcy School Board and takes an interest in all that pertains to the good of the community.
He and Mrs. GEORGE are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Searcy.
