Foundations of Faith and Life in Jesus
Lesson 3 - Eternal Judgement, Heaven and Hell
Questions: What happens after I die? Where do I go? Are heaven and hell real? What are heaven and hell like?
Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.
Hebrews 9:27 (p. 893)
For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He
has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.
Acts 17:31 (p. 826)
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due
him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
2 Corinthians 5:10 (p. 860)
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what
they had done as recorded in the books.
Revelation 20:12 (p. 921)
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with
you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 (p. 904)
For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into
gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought
the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven
others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made
them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous
man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among
them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)
-- if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the
unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
2 Peter 2:4-9 (pp. 903, 904)
In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there
to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take
you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
John 14:2,3 (p. 803)
Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an
eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
2 Corinthians 5:1 (p. 860)
However, the Most High does not live in houses made by men. As the prophet says: "Heaven is
my throne, and the earth is my footstool."
Acts 7:48,49 (p. 816)
After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from
every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.
They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried
out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." All
the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures.
They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: "Amen! Praise and
glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!" Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did
they come from?" I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out
of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the
Lamb. Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the
Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living
water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
Revelation 7:9-17 (p. 914)
