Foundations of Faith and Life in Jesus

Lesson 7 - The Purpose of Life, Relationship with Jesus

Questions: What is the meaning of life? Why was I created? What is the purpose of life?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (p. 791)

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
John 17:3 (p. 805)

And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.
Deuteronomy 10:12, 13 (p. 138)

But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to obey his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and all your soul.
Joshua 22:5 (p. 173)

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
Mark 12:30 (p. 755)

We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.
1 John 2:3 (p. 905)

Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.
John 14:21 (p. 803)

When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
John 10:4 (p. 798)

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Psalm 42:1, 2 (p. 419)

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
Psalm 63:1, 2 (p. 429)

I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
Job 19:27 (p. 385)

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
Acts 17:26, 27 (p. 826)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 (p. 589)

The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.
Exodus 33:11 (p. 67)

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.
James 2:23 (p. 898)

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.
John 15:13, 14 (p. 804)

Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs), in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One). [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly].
Philippians 3:8, 10a (Amplified Bible)

[That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!
Ephesians 3:19 (Amplified Bible)

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it."
Matthew 13:44-46 (p. 728)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6 (p. 719)
