ANCESTRAL DOCUMENTS


These are links to some documents of my ancestors that have historical interest and value. Many describe events of general historical interest such as homesteading on the prairie and the California Gold Rush.


KATE'S LETTER Kate Gilmore Bowen wrote about a Christmas on the Kansas prairie in the 1880s.
JASPER CLAY'S LETTER Jasper Clay Bowen tells the folks back home in Indiana about a prairie fire on the Kansas pairie.
JOHN HAMPTON'S WILL John Hampton died in rutherford County TN in 1818 and named each of his children in his will.
JOEL'S REVOLUNTIONARY WAR PENSION Joel Gibson served for the entire length of the war.
ANDREW'S LETTER Andrew Hall Gilmore went to the California Gold Rush and wrote this letter to the folks back home in Indiana.
FROM ANDREW'S DIARY Andrew left a diary about the overland journey to the gold fields. The original is in the Califronia State Library.

SMALL POX EPIDEMIC LETTER In 1849 Mary Jane Thompson wrote to her brother, who was away at school, about the small pox epidemic and other happenings at home.
1850 LETTER TO JOHN This is in response to John's request for a horse.
POOR WILLIE HAS DIED The best medical care of the day could not save this boy.
BOWEN ESTATE John Bowen's Will of 1804, his wife's estate, and a suit filed by one of the sons to break the will.
A. J. HAMPTON'S WILL This will names A. J.'s siblings and his parents.
