These are my uncles that were in the First
World War. Information is from an article from a
newpaper, published in Steubenville,Ohio, dated 1918.
William B.Thayer,age 30,served
three years in the Phillippines, and saw
service in China when the Allied forces marched
to Pekin.He enlisted later in the National Guard of
Kansas, was drum major and first sergeant,Headquarters
Company,Eagle Pass,Texas. Later stationed at
Gettysburg,Pa.
John A.Thayer,age 32,was a boy with a natural
roaming disposition. He left home at the age of eighteen,
joined the army, has served in the Phillipines, was
with General Pershing's forces on the Mexican border
and was in France.
Emmett G.Thayer,age 23, also enlisted in Company F,
Tenth Ohio Infantry, at Steubenville, Ohio. Moved
to Camp Sheridan, Ala. Then to Company B, One Hundred
and Thirty-fouth Machine Gun Battalion, then to France.
Lowery D. Thayer, aged 27, enlisted April 30,1917,
in Company F,Tenth Ohio Infantry, at Steubenville,Ohio.
Then to Camp Green, N.C.,First Company,Fourth M.M. Regiment.
Charles A. Thayer,aged 20, enlisted Company E,Tenth
Ohio Infantry. Then went to Camp Sheridan,Ala, Company
B,One Hundred and Thirty-fouth Machine Gun Battalion.
Then to France.
