Christmas is a wonderful time of year.

For many of us, Christmast is a time for decorating our homes, baking all kinds of special goodies, and drinking eggnog.

It is a time for shopping, wrapping and exchanging gifts, going to parties and festive gatherings, and visiting with friends and family, near and far.

It is the time when children eagerly await Santa's arrival. They make sure to leave cookies and milk for Santa, and carrot sticks for his reindeer.

Christmas is a time for caroling with neighbors, for sending and receiving cards full of good tydings, and for cherishing past memories, while making new one.

It is a time when it seems that everything is a glitter and a glow. All around, decorations sparkle, as cheerful holiday songs ring out everywhere.

All these things make our holiday bright, fun, and cheery. but let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas. The Bible tells us that the angel said:

"I bring you good news of great joy, that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a savior is born to you. He is Christ the Lord."

This is the true meaning of Christmas. It is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Born to bring us salvation and into God's Kingdom.

So, as we give gifts, just as the three Wisemen did so long ago, let us remember Christmas is more than all that glitters and glows. It is more than Santa and presents and frosty.

As we gather together with our families and friends to celebrate the season, let us hold the promise of that child in our hearts.

As Christmas approaches, let us take a break from the hectic preparations and holiday mayhem, to give ourselves time with God. He gave us the most incredible and awesome gift..his son Jesus.

Spend time in church to thank and to praise. Take time to pray. Read the Bible, and learn of the Word of God. Not just once or twice a year, but set aside time for God each day.

God gave to us the gift of all gifts, his son Jesus our Lord. Let us give to God ourselves.
