Matthew 16: 1 - 11 ~ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired Him that He would show them a sign from heaven.
2) He answered and said to them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3) And in the morning, it will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the sign of the times?
4) A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign: and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And He left them, and departed.
5) And when His disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6) Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
7) And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
8) Which when Jesus perceived, He said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have bread?
9) Do you not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10) Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
11) How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12) Then understood they how that He bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. This same corrupt doctrine of the Pharisees or spirit of leaven that our Lord warned the desciples about is still very much alive today. Just as the desciples did; We would also think Jesus was talking about the physical when He was clearly talking about the Spiritual. The same spirit of leaven still demands a physical sign from Jesus. We can go to any name it and claim it stronghold or just about anywhere there is religious programming on the TV and hear and watch them continually demanding a sign from our Lord. I say this spirit is alive because in this instance Jesus likened leaven unto false doctrine and He used something living, yeast to describe it. It's easy to see that the reason why He used yeast was we all know what yeast does to the dough, just a little makes the whole loaf rise whether the loaf likes it or not, it has no choice. Yeast is also likened unto sin. Leaven is something that very severly effects the growth of another thing, whether that growth be good or bad. When Jesus celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread, He Himself was this feast. Paul says in Galatians 5: 9 (Amp) ~ A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump (it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church).
1 Corinthians 5: 1 - 8 ~ It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
2) And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
3) For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
4) In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5) To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
6) Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
7) Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8) Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. The three main things leaven is likened unto is corrupt doctrine, sin, and unbelief. All of these will stunt or even kill spiritual growth and eventually kill our spirit man.Our Lord reprimanded the desciples on their way over in the boat for not hearing and understanding and thereby believing. He had just called the legalists a wicked and adulterous generation because of them demanding a sign. The desciples were there with Him to hear these words, yet I believe the same spirit of leaven that pervaded the legalists' soul started to infest the desciples. It doesn’t take much to see that Jesus was frustrated with them at them showing the same nature as the Pharisees, and He wasn't going to let that go withour rebuke. He went so far as to scold them for their lack of faith. Now I do believe that would make my head drop and my shoulders grow slack if I had seen personally what the disciples had seen and our Lord looked at me shaking His head telling me I had little to no faith.
As I said before, this spirit of leaven is very much alive today. As Solomon so wisely said in Ecclesiasties, There's nothing new under the sun. Not only is it alive, but is growing and infesting the factions of religion where it wasn't before. Even the mild conservative churchs of today are chasing after signs and wonders. Can’t we hear and understand Matthew 24: 24 ~ For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Look at what our Lord is saying. He is warning that if it were possible the very chosen would be fooled. What He is actually saying is the only thing that would make it possible would be our own Faith. It has always been a two-way street with God. Our will has always had much to do with the direction of our walk. Contrary to Calvinistic doctrine. The disciples were fooled several times, and Jesus had to step in to set them straight. He reproved them many times because of their failure to see and hear or understand with their spiritual eyes and ears. And if it wasn’t for our Lord catching this unbelief and knocking it back, it would have grown out of control like so much weeds or like a yeast filled lump of dough. So the scripture bears witness in 1 Peter 4: 18 (Amp) ~ If the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the godless and the wicked? This also means if the desciples that sat at My feet were caught in unbelief, what will become of the new born in Christ, the babies in Christ. If the learned in the Gospel are almost deceived, how will the others ever escape being deceived?
So who will reprove us today if we are guilty of the same, unbelief, lining up with corrupt teaching or following after signs and wonders? For some of us it won't be our Lord because we can't hear Him for the dazzlement and brightness of these lying wonders. For some, if we are in constant fellowship with no one but Jesus; with our eyes only on Him, the Holy Spirit will reprove us and we may slacken our shoulders in shame but better that, than to be lost like the Pharisaic legalists. I would always want to be one who is humble enough to change than let my pride send me into perdition. And believe me, if Jesus calls us a wicked and adulterous person, we would be well on our way to the abyss contrary to popular opinion.
Matthew 26: 17 - 30 ~ Now the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto Him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for Thee to eat the passover?
18) And He said, Go into the city to such a man, and say to him, the Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with My disciples.
19) And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20) Now when the evening was come, He sat down with the twelve.
21) And as they did eat, He said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray Me.
22) And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto Him, Lord, is it I? (23) And He answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with Me in the dish, the same shall betray Me.
24) The Son of Man goeth as it is written of Him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25) Then Judas, which betrayed Him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26) And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is My body.
27) And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28) For this is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29) But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Fathers Kingdom.
30) And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. This was the feast of sinless doctrine. As Jesus is the Word of Truth, God's Word cannot be corrupted. But only the understanding and preaching of it. In Luke 4: 3 & 4 (Amp) The devil tried to tempt Jesus by quoting the Word. ~ (3) Then the devil said to Him, If you are the Son of God, order this stone to turn into a loaf (of bread).
4) And Jesus replied to him. It is written, Man shall not live and be sustained by (on) bread alone, but by every word and expression of God.Like I said previously in this text, there is a specific reason why our Lord had this last supper, and that reason has been swept under the carpet, and as usual with Kingdom things, has been whitwashed with many traditions of men. I would be correct in saying that most people at a communion service take the Lord's Body and His Blood into themselves without knowing what it's all about and the true meaning of this. This is primarily done because of pride. Brother so and so doesn't want it known he knows nothing about the reason for communion and definitely figures he's worthy enough to partake. Woe unto us. We're surely a pitiful lot. I speak from my own experience here.
This has everything to do with sacrifice and suffering. Or the laying down of self, and the sacrificing of all to follow in His footsteps. Everytime we take communion we align ourselves up with the Truth ~ the Whole Truth ~ and Nothing but the Truth of Gods Word, as Jesus is literally the Truth of God's Word or the Bread of Life. Now this is not to say that's exactly what we are being taught. If what we are being taught or our understanding into spiritual things doesn't line up perfectly with Gods Truth, then we have what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11: 27 - 30 (Amp) ~ So then whoever eats the Bread or drinks the Cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy (of Him) will be guilty of (profaning and sinning against) the body and blood of the Lord.
28) Let a man (thoroughly) examine himself, and (only when he has done) so should he eat of the Bread and drink of the Cup.
29) For anyone who eats and drinks without discriminating and recognizing with due appreciation that (it is Christ's) body, eats and drinks a sentence (a verdict of judgment) upon himself.
30) That (careless and unworthy participation) is the reason many of you are weak and sickly, and quite enough of you have fallen into the sleep of death. What happens is a positive and a negative crossing wires and the whole system shorts out. We can't be taught leaven and take the Bread of Life into our body and mix in even a little bit of Leaven or false doctrine will corrupt the whole message.THIS WAS AND STILL IS A CELEBRATION OF THE FEAST OF THE TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD.
