John said this in 1 John 5: 14 & 15 (Amp) ~ And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.
15) And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [have settled and abosolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possesions] the requests made of Him.These two witnesses are very clear as to the attitude in which we are to approach our Father in prayer for our wants and desires. This seems to conflict with the many witnesses in the Gospel of John that say anything we ask for in faith He will give it to us. Just taking one for instance John 15: 16 (Amp) ~ You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you may go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as representing all that I AM], He may give it to you. Yet they do not conflict in any way.
In 1 John 5: 14 & 15 we are given clear instructions as to how we are to pray and if we pray this particular way, we will have confidence and assurance that we already will have what we ask for. This is because what we petition for will be already what God has willed in our walk. In other words this has nothing to do with the contents of our prayer but the context it's used in. Most importantly these witnesses that speak of us receiving anything we desire in the New Covenant have been completely used and abused by many of us today who take them out of context and hold them up as some kind of Holy Spirit Visa card. But notice that all of these instances when Jesus said we would receive whatever we asked for, there is always a condition. Usually, if not always, the little all important word that always dictates the meaning of any concept, idea or command where it is used. The little conjuction---IF. Many of us in the church today just read over this word when it comes to receiving something from God. Whether it be some physical gift or even salvation itself. Jesus used this little word almost exsplicitly when He was speaking of receiving.
Our Lord never prayed anything but the Father's will. This is something we desperately need to adhere to. Notice how our Lord Jesus prayed. He prayed by Praising the Father first, thanksgiving second, and the request last. Examples of this principle are in Matt. 6: 9 - 13 ~ LK.11: 2 - 4 ~ Mk.6: 41 & 8: 7. I will be able to list over 35 witnesses from the Word to back up the Lord's Prayer, so what it will basically be is my own paraphrase. But as always, the Gospel of Christ bearing witness.
Our Father Who is in heaven. God is our heavenly Father, and He resides in heaven, not on the earth. Matt.5: 16, ~ 5: 45, ~ 6: 1, ~ 6: 9, ~ 7: 11 ~ Lk. 11: 14 & Matt. 5: 16 ~ Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven. Lk. 11: 13 ~ If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts (gifts that are to their advantage) to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him.
This first verse is referring to ~ The Father.
Hallowed be Your Name ~ Holy is Your Name, the Name above every other Name ~ Jesus. Matt.1: 21 ~ Lk.1: 31 ~ Lk.13: 35 ~ Jn.2: 23 ~ Jn.20: 31 & Acts 2: 38 Matt. 1: 21 (amp) ~ She will bear a Son, and you shall call His Name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins (that is, prevent them from failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God). Jn.20: 31 (amp) ~ But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Annointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His Name (through Who He is ).
Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. ~ The Kingdom of God and things pertaining to it is faith. This is a trust in God's will in our life which is the true walk of faith. The Holy Spirit is the author and finisher of our faith; or in other words He makes up all that faith is. Heb. 12: 2 ~ Jn. 12: 2 ~ Lk.24: 49 - 51 & Gal.3: 23 - 25 ~ says But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. (24) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (25) But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
So in these few words in 2 verses Our Father which art in Heaven. ~ We have the Father.
Hallowed be Thy Name ~ The name of God is Jesus. The name above every other name. ~ We have the Son.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done. Gal.3: 25 says ~ But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. So there is a point in time where Faith had to come to earth, to dwell in mankind. And faith is the Kingdom of God. Faith is the Holy Spirit.
This just backs up my statement, the fewer words our Lord Jesus spoke, the more we are able to reap.
