On this page you’ll find some of my ramblings, poetry, discoveries, life things. Hope you enjoy reading and finding out about us. One of the things I love about the Internet is there’s so much to see, read and learn. I hope you can learn something from these pages. Thanks for visiting the Thomas Family.

WRITER’S BLOCK

My mind is all aflutter,
I find it difficult to write,
To break upon the barrier
That makes my life contrite.
Whilst wallowing in self-pity
Nothing will come to mind
My spirit feels forlorn
I feel I’m left behind.

It’s difficult to use a gift
When you mind is not that clear
It concentrates on things of past
And is filled with hopeless fear
I want to break free from the bondage
That holds my mind so numb
And so I sit here, pen in hand
To wait for thoughts to come.

But wait, have not I
Just broken through that wall?
The one that held me back
And brought about my fall?
Is it possible it was just a door
Upon which I had to knock?
And now that the door has opened
I won’t suffer Writer’s Block.

Gifts

Mother always taught me
“treat gifts with special care”
But the fits that mean most of all
I forget I have to share.
God gave me five daughters
to nurture and to love
It’s so easy to forget
that they’re gifts from above.

God please help me remember that
they really are on loan
For me to love and cherish
and I really mustn’t moan
That you plan for them
maybe not what I’ve in mind
And that I can’t control in life
what they may find.

So thank you God for giving me
five very special girls
Who will give my life some meaning
in this often wicked world
And help me not to worry
Should they seem to stray
Because I know that you will be
with them day by day.

Journeying

As we wander through life's journey
Making friends along the way
It is good to know that God is there
To greet us every day.

As we turn our eyes to Jesus
Our feet will surely tread
Along the path of righteousness
Made from the words He said.

So blessed by your journey
Your witness brave and true
May God return you safe and well
To the ones who have missed you.

I love to write poetry, but I don't always have the time. I've written lots of songs too, almost all to do with the love of our Lord, and the things that He does for us. We've had our difficult times, just as everyone does, but He has pulled us through, loved us through it, and helped us to handle things better, so we can help others to handle things better.

Gifts was written because I'd lost my first child at the age of almost six months to Cot Death (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Angie, my youngest, was almost the same age as he had been and although I'd given birth to other children in between, the fear I was experiencing at that time was immense.

Writer's Block was written for a competition and I couldn't think of anything to write.

Journeying was written for a wonderful Christian man and his wife when they left on a journey. He'd been my (life) support and I didn't want him to go away. But I recognised that my true support is in our Lord and Saviour and that Hew had only been a teacher passing through my life.

I was blessed by a lovely web page I saw just recently about Dreams and the Dreamer. It is titled You Have to Have a Dream and I fully recommend it. And because he so inspired me, I've decided to add something along similar lines to this page. So please enjoy...... Dreams

We'd love to hear from you....email.gif (12958 bytes)

This section was inspired by a wonderful web site I mentioned above and it carried on for me a project I started long ago. A dedication called 'Glory', encouraged by the Revd. David Lewis who taught our children with his wonderful stories to look for the 'glory' in everything. Our children would bring along to church, things they had found during the week for him to see.

Psalm 57:11 "Be exalted, oh God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth"

Our daughters too, should be thanked, for the interest they showed and their love of 'glory'. They, too, have contributions in this section.

Glory is a touch of life
Lovely beautiful things
Oh how I wish there was more glory
Really nice birds sing
Yes glory is lovely

Ezekial 43:2 "….and the land was radiant with his glory"

"When I go to heaven I'm going to take God a gift." Melanie stated happily.
We were on our way home from a birthday party and this had evidently started Melanie's train of thought.
"Do you know the best gift you can give to God?" I asked and when told 'no' I answered "yourself." I explained what God wanted for each and everyone of us in His world. I asked her if she understood and she replied "Well, when I see Him I'm going to give Him a great big hug and kiss!"
"He'll love that darling." as I smiled broadly at the thought. Melanie, at seven years of age was such an affectionate, loving child and I knew that was exactly what she would do.
I reflected on this conversation later and wondered if I would do the same. No, I decided, I would probably stare in awe and feel totally inadequate in the face of His beauty and splendour. But wait, didn't He feel that I was worthy of His love? Yes, I decided, Melanie definitely had the right idea. She had not been taught to think this way, it came naturally to her but, for those of us past our childhood, we have to learn once again to be childlike in receiving God's love and His promises as we are told in Mark 10:13-16. And, I think that this sometimes means being short in memory too. How much easier it would be to be able to forget some of the things we've done just as children easily forget their own shortcomings.
And the more I thought about it the more I realised that I, too, would love to give God a gift - a hug and kiss from me, an affirmation of my love for Him. And it took my young daughter to make me even think of it.

Glory's nice, pale and pink,
Flowers bloom, lizards blink,
Leaves unfurl, white as a pearl,
Turtles swim, as the light grows dim.
Yes, I like glory, each little petal has a story
Yes, glory is a lovely thing
When all the birds sing.

The Tree tree2.gif (1465 bytes)

Life is like a growing tree
Blowing gently in the breeze
But when a hard wind blows
We are brought down to our knees.

When the day is shining bright
It reaches right up to the sky
Giving praises to the Lord
Growing more and reaching high.

tree3.jpg (4857 bytes)

If life deals with it right
The tree grows far more in height
But if it should befall some wrong
It becomes ugly in our sight.

Isaiah 59:19 "..and from the rising of the sun, they will revere his glory"

There are some who see beauty in
All, no matter what the sin,
Then there are those who would prefer
To cut off the offending limb.

Don't you think that life is like
A growing tree reaching heights
That only something inside allows,
Reaching for when the day is bright.

IF I HAD A DREAM

If I had a dream, I'd share it with you
Together we'll see our dream come true
And by your side, we both shall strive,
There's nothing that we can't do.

Though there are times my vision grows dim
I know your light is always within
And by your side, we both shall strive
We're in this to win.

It I should ever find myself falling
Your love will uphold me, I know.
I know I'd never do this without you;
I need you and I love you.

Well, you had a dream, a vision for me
And you showed me how together we'd be.
And side by side, together we'd strive
For all eternity.

God, how great is your love
That even when we go our own way
You still watch over us
Making sure we don't stray.

We seek you in our afflictions,
And find you when in need
But then we go on our own way
And forget what we should heed.

Father will we ever really know
The deepness of your love?
We see just a glimpse of it
And yet this seems enough.

Maybe to know your love complete
Would clearly blow my mind
And yet I can't help but seek
For all that I might find.
