Music camp this year was a blast! We had very hot weather for the week and just about everyone got a bit of sunburn.
Each day started at 7:15 a.m., except for those early risers who raced up to the showers, or to go and play on the golf course at 6:30 a.m. At 8:15 a.m. we would have our morning devotions and exercises. There weren't too many people who were happy about the exercises, especially those girls who had to walk all the way from the "blue house". We would then have breakfast, go back to clean our cabins, brush our teeth, grab our Bible and pencil and get ready for Bible class.
After Bible, we would go to our elective. We could choose from timbrels, mime, guitar, bottle band and the rotating elective. The rotating elective was something different each day such as timbrels, crafts, kite building and flying, nature and Tye-Bo. Tye-Bo was a big hit.
Throughout the rest of the day we would have activities such as band, vocal, swimming, canteen, sports, and of course everyone's favorite - theory! Every night around 7:30 p.m. we would have a different program, either in Fraser Hall or in the tent. Our day usually didn't end until around 10:15 p.m. and even later for some people. On different nights we had getting to know you, talent night, campfires, competition night, mid-week program and sports night.
On Friday we had our last theory class and then testing in the dining hall. Those involved in vocal also get tested. Friday night was fun and we split up into teams and played different sports. The sports included home run derby, three legged soccer, basketball, blind volleyball, simming races, cannon-ball competition & water polo.
After the sports was over we went into the woods for a campfire. This was a very emotional time for some as we sang songs. It was amazing to see friends hug and pray together. After campfire we went to the dining hall for a coffeehouse. At the coffee house we sang lots of songs and ate good food.
On Saturday morning we had our final program. The vocal group, timbrels and all bands (incl. faculty) took part. Awards were given out (see list at the bottom of this article). This year students from Peterborough won 17 awards and also a YAMAHA cornet for sending the most instrumentalists to camp.
Thank you to all who took time out from their summer schedules to work as faculty members or visit at the program. Overall, we had a great time at camp and hope next year will be just as good!
