New Year's Greeting From Majors Rowe

1997 certainly was an exciting year for our corp's youth program! In January our YPSM, Debbie, went off to Chicago for the National Youth Ministry Convention. How grateful we are to God for Debbie's leadership and for her commintment to both the youth worker's team and each young person! Please pray for Shelley Ballantine as she goes to the Convention this year. We look forward to more exciting ideas and programs being shared with us. It has really been exciting for us to watch as the Y.P. team worked together to build a stong, diverse, and creative Y.P. program.
Thank you to each one of you.

Our new Divisional Commander, Colonel Roed, came to Sunday School recently and though it was his first visit, I think he captured the spirit of this past year very well when he declared, "some Sunday Schools are BORING,! This one is FUN, FUN, FUN!" That's the was we feel about this past year and the whole youth program. Young people deserve to have fun and the church and its youth programs should be joyful and exciting.

Lynette and I really enjoyed the many youth presentations we have experienced this year! The beginners and Y.P. Bands, the Timbrels, the Singing Company, these have all blessed us with their ministry. I'm sorry we were away during the visit of the Ottawa Citadel Youth Band but we plan to be with you for the return visit. Our Junior Soldier and Corps Cadet Programs are the envy of the Division and we are grateful for your willingness to share your many talents with us.

We are planning a very special service this month. We will call it "Worship Through The Eyes of Our Young People." Your leaders will give you further details but we are praying that God will really bless you as you open eyes to what God is doing in your world and how you are expieriencing him.

Last year will be remembered as the year the Army closed its doors on its Guiding program. We all have some regrets about this move, although we understand why it was necessary. We do want to express a sincere than you to the many people who have provided leadership to this fine ministry throughout the years. The Scouting units will continue to be active and we thank Deryck and his team for their leadership.

Debbie and her team have many exciting plans for 1998. We look forward to another year of growth, not only in numbers, but in our spritual life as we mature and become more like Jesus in all we think, do, and say.

This past year also saw our new youth publication, The Temple Times, really blossom into an excellent youth forum. We look forward to our copy each month. Thank you to our Editor, Murray Carr, and to each one of you who submitted articles throughout the year. Please continue to use this effective tool for sharing your faith and valuable youth news. May the Lord bless each reader as you seek to live for Christ in a world that seems to become more complex and fast-paced every day. Find time to "be still" and know that God is there and that he loves your very much.

Major Lindsay Rowe

Larry to the Rescue

Due to financial circumstances we have had to discontinue Sunday bus services. Larry Hockaday has agreed to coordinate a van schedule whereby Seniors and Sunday School children will be picked up for service and Sunday School. It is the parents responsibility to pick up the children going home after Sunday School. We thank Larry for his years of service in this regard. Talk to Larry - he has quite a testimony about his background in this regard.

At this time we also thank Mary Collinson who will continue to call young people to see if they need a ride to Sunday School each week.

Jr. Church Roster

Cheryl Rowe has drawn up another schedule for Jr. Church. The schedule will complete the Sunday School year - January to June 1998. Please see Cheryl if you normally take a turn with the 2 - 6 year olds on Sunday mornings during sermon time. You should see Cheryl if you would like to be included on a substitute list.

Praying for Us

The Youth Corps appreciates the prayer support of our Home League Ladies. The following prayers for our young people were given to us to share with you:

My prayer for the Peterborough Temple Youth Corps in 1998 is that you will always be kind to the old folks, the physically challenged, mentally challenged and people of colour.

Ruth Thomas

That the "Temple" will be the same vibrant, caring, teaching place it has been for young boys, young girls, and all our teens for the past 100 years!

Major Sandra

That our youth corps would all live by the "golden rule".

Peggy Braund

A Prayer for All of Us

So far today I've done alright. I haven't gossiped, cursed or lost my temper. I haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or overindulged. I am really glad about these things. But in a few minutes, Lord, I am going to get out of bed, and from then on, I'm probably going to need alot more help.

Thank you, AMEN

Got Any Ideas or Suggestions?

We want to have a mural painted on the YP building (Aylmer Street, parking lot side). Any pictures, suggestions or ideas may be given to YPSM, Debbie Wombwell, or dropped off at the Temple Office, E-mailed to Debbie, or deposited into the bubble on top of the piano in the boys hall.

We want the mural to identify the building as the Salvation Army Young People's Building and depict an inspirational drawing.

Say it all with a simple picture (either your own drawing or a copy of one you like).

We will be compiling your suggestions and giving them to Major Carl Bowes for him to consider.
