Sunday School Feature - My Story

Hi, my name is TAWNYA SHIELDS. God gave me a place to live on FORD STREET. He also game me a FAMILY to take care of me. God provides me with the food to eat. My very favorite thing to eat is FRENCH FRIES. He gives me clothes to wear. I like to wear my SHORTS AND T-SHIRT the best. God also cares about who my friends are. One of my best friends is ANDREA. We like to PLAY together. God gave me a school to go to where I learn things like MATH and SPELLING. The best teacher I ever had was MRS. REED. God also gave me a church to go to. The Corps Officer is MAJOR ROWE.

Editors Note:
Hey Tawnya - did you know that T-shirts talk?
What does your favourite T-shirt say?

"Thank You Temple Times Supporters"

While the news staff continues to work diligently to bring you new and exciting articles for the Temple Times there are three people we offer special thanks to. Each month after Editor Murray Carr has prepared the Temple Times for print - Joan Weddell sets aside time from her busy schedule to photocopy 300 copies for distribution. Gary & Holly Wombwell fold the times and prepare them for hand out.

Thanks Joan, Gary & Holly

Greg Wombwell has joined the news team. He will be putting the Temple Times on-line so that at any given time those of you who are computer buffs can sit down and read through past & current articles. Thanks Greg!

The Ice Storm of 98

Try to imagine you and your family living without electricity for ten days. Stop! Think! No refrigeration to keep food from spoiling. No news, music, movies, sitcoms without radio or T.V. No Heat at one of the coldest times of the year. Many children, moms and dads leaving their homes and possessions so that they would not starve of freeze to death.

By the time the Peterborough Family Services Team arrived in Kingston the main emergency was over. Life appeared to be back to normal but Lynda Reid, Barb Munro, Darlene and Murray Carr would soon discover that there were several thousand families without food. For three days they carried boxes, stocked shelves, and repacked cases and cartons of dry goods, canned goods, bags of milk, flats of bread and eggs. Lynda and Darlene also assisted with clerical chores (typing). Tiring? Yes! But what a wonderful feeling to be helping families who had suffered from the storm.

We were very proud to hear how people who worked for the Salvation Army in Kingston had helped when the storm and disaster were at their peek. The staff at Harbour Light prepared over 11,000 meals for five different shelters. Family Services employees, Army Officers, and volunteers from the church assisted with many different duties at the shelters. No job was too big or too small. A fond memory of Major Sharon Cooper (the D.Y.S.) was that of holding a young child so that the mother could just have some time to herself. A simple task? Perhaps, but God's love was being shared in a very special way.

We might never know how lives of the disaster victims were affected by coming in contact with someone who believes in a wonderful God but we continue to pray that the deeds and examples will influence someone's life in the future.

Another Milestone

When you see Miss Holly Wombwell be sure to congratulate her on the completion of her Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Word has it that she will be attending college in the fall. Anyone with any information concerning a job, you are asked to relay this information as soon as possible to Debbie or Gary. Well Done Holly!!!

A Fantastic Weekend!!!

During the weekend of January 16-18th, 18 Brownies, Guides and Leaders went to Maple Creek Christian Ranch just 20 minutes from Peterborough. A GREAT TIME was had by all. Our special guest was Mrs. Major Sharon Cooper, (our Divisional Youth Secretary).

We did all kinds of things, spent an hour on horseback, riding and learning (the Guides will get their Horsemanship Badge), toboganning, tubeing, skating, hay ride, playing at the climbers, hiking, following a laid trail, outdoor campfire and worship service Sunday morning, crafts, video and lots of eating. They feed us all very well, the girls enjoyed each and every meal that the owners prepared for us.

When it was time for everyone to go home, most of the girls said they didn't want to go home. For some of these girls this is a real special time for them, the leaders are very good in hugging, listening and sharing with them, and I think the girls loved to be loved and listened too.

We all would recommend this ranch if you get the chance. It gave you a great feeling inside that all who were there cared for each other, even the people who were in charge of this ranch, it showed.

Keep in Touch With Our Students

You, yourself know how nice it is to get a short note of encouragement from someone else. Our college and university students live in a very challenging environment. During the month of February, take time to let them know how much we care. If you need their postal or email address please ask Debbie Wombwell or Murray Carr.
