Over the next few weeks the young people will be denying themselves personal treasures as we strive to raise funds for the extension of God's Kingdom on the mission fields. See "Raise the Titanic Article".

Sunday School Feature - My Story

Hi, my name is BRAD MINAKER. God gave me a place to live in PETERBOROUGH. He also game me a MOM & DAD to take care of me. God provides me with the food to eat. My very favorite thing to eat is PIZZA. He gives me clothes to wear. I like to wear my SHORTS the best. God also cares about who my friends are. One of my best friends is GREG. We like to PLAY together. God gave me a school to go to where I learn things like MATH and SPELLING. The best teacher I ever had was MR. KELLY. God also gave me a church to go to. The Corps Officers are MAJOR & MRS. ROWE.

Editors Note:
I would say you are a good combination of your dad, YP Treasurer Brian and your mom, Youth Worker/Teacher, Joanne. Why? ... becuase you like Math & Spelling!

GOD SURE GIVES YOU A LOT OF GREAT THINGS!

Hot Off the Press

Thank you to all who supported the teen cheese drive. We made a total of $375.00. The dollars are being raised to supplement the costs for our youths to attend Youth Councils and Corps Retreat.

Congrats to Joel Hurtubise who was voted onto the Peterborough High Schools All-Start Football team. Way to go JOEL!!! Does anyone know what position Joel plays? Watch for details of an All-Star Game to be played in the Spring.

We are aniticipating an Easter Sr. Soldier enrolment of 6 young ladies. If you wish to assist in anyway in helping to procure uniforms for these young ladies please see Y.P.S.M. Debbie Wombwell.

Welcome to Randy Graham as he joins our email group. Randy practices law in Toronto and is a Sunday School graduate. We look forward to hearing from him in a future edition. Speaking of the Graham family, Peter Graham has found an unique way to raise money for Self Denial. He has a gumball machine just full of gum. When the grandkids come over to visit (or anybody for that matter) for a small donation one can get oneself a gumball. Anyone else have an idea for Self Denial to share???

Raising the Titanic
A Peterborough Temple Sunday School Self-Denial Project

Money collected will go to help missionaries work with children in many other countries. Suggestions on earning spare change have been presented to the children in Sunday School. Please help your child in learning the joy that comes from giving to others.

Last year the Y.P. Corps raised $1200.00 towards self-denial. Our goal is to see if we can improve on that amount this year. Keep your eyes on the Titanic. Let's raise it right out of the bottle!!!!

Thanks to all who continue to support us in these endeavours.

We would also like to extend and invitation to all teens aged 11 and up to a March Break Spring Fling. Meet Wednesday March 18 @ 5:30 at the Temple for a Spagetti Dinner followed by bowling. Details to follow.

Keep in Touch With Our Students

You, yourself know how nice it is to get a short note of encouragement from someone else. Our college and university students live in a very challenging environment. During the month of February, take time to let them know how much we care. If you need their postal or email address please ask Debbie Wombwell or Murray Carr.

Teen Teacher, Shelley B. represents Peterborough Youth in the "Windy City".

Chicago, the "Windy City" and from January 22-25th, 98 - the "Youth City".

The National Youth & Children's Ministry Convention's theme this year was "Look What God is Doing".

The convention was filled with activity and excitement about all the things God is doing and will do through us as Christians.

My time at the convention began with registration on Thursday and then went into meeting our networking groups. Praise & Worship followed at 7:15 p.m. and our first general session came right after that.

My day on Friday started at 5:00 a.m. with an early morning swim. The day officially began with Praise & Worship at 7:30 a.m. and continued through to three workshops and an evening general session ending at about 10:00 p.m.

The workshops I took on Friday were:

1. Becoming an effective storyteller
2. Reaching the unchurched youth
3. Unconventional ways to get people to sing

Saturday's workshops were:

1. A Working Model of Student-Led Youth Ministry
2. Creative Bible Teaching Ideas for Youth
3. Taking Care of Your Own Prayer & Spiritual Growth

The workshops I took not only gave me ideas and motivation about youth ministry, but I know I'm a stronger Christian die to my time there.

The general sessions were also filled with many important and exciting ways to tell youth about Christ.

I thank the Trust Board for their gift to the YP Corps that enabled me to go to Chicago.

I pray that God will use me and the knowledge He has given me to further His Kingdom.

Shelley Ballantine

Editor's Note:
Each time you share your experience with us Shelley you bless us. We are thankful to have you as one of our teachers in the Senior Sunday School. To our readers: Ask Shelley's girls (14&15 yr. olds) what she brought them back from Chicago.
