Romeo and Juliet
The centuries were unable to extinguish the rivalry between the Montéquios and the Capuletos. But they determined that a story was going to change their destinies forever. A story which started on a very small street of Verona. The saddest one that the world has ever seen.
Tebaldo: Come, Benvólio, and try to face your death with dignity!
Benvólio: I just want peace between us. Throw your sword away!
Tebaldo: How can you talk about peace when you carry a sword in your hands too? I hate the word peace as I hate the heel and all of you, Montéquios. Fight, coward!
Frei: Stop, enemies of the peace! Throw you swords away. Throughout the years, Verona has tolerate the violence between you, Montéquios and Capuletos. Now, it’s time to stop. Our prince sent me to tell you that if you disturb the silence of our city again with our fights, you’re going to pay for it, with you lives! Now, go away! Go home!
Benvólio - Hi! Romeo, my dear cousin! How are you doing?
Romeo - Well, I’m trying to survive to the sad hours of my life.
Benvólio - Why are you so sad? Are you in love? Love makes hours seem to be longer.
Romeo - Yeah, you can say so. I love a young lady, but she doesn’t love me. She has sworn not to love anybody.
Benvólio - So, I’d better forget her.
Romeo - Those who are caught by love, cannot forget the treasure of their hearts.
Benvólio - Can you tell me her name?
Romeo - Rosalina.
Benvólio - Look, there is going to be a party at the Capuleto’s tonight. Go with me and you’ll be able to compare your Rosalina with other ladies there. I’m sure you’ll forget her.
Romeo - I don’t know. It’s at the Capuleto’s house.
Benvólio - Don’t worry. What can they do? They will not cause any harm to us.
At the party
Benvólio - Here we are! The party tonight awaits us! Compare this wonderful ladies with your Rosalina!
Romeo - God! I think I found the true love of my heart! It’s not Rosalina. Who is that lady over there? I’ve never seen any kind of beauty that can be compared to her!
Tebaldo - Go away Motésquio. You’re not welcomed here.
Romeo - We come in peace. Let’s not start all over again.
Mrs. Capuleto - Leave them alone, Tebaldo. Try to enjoy yourself.
Romeo (approaching Juliet) - Would you like to dance?
Juliet - I’d be delighted.
Romeo - I’d love to know your name?
Juliet - Juliet. Juliet Capuleto. And yours?
Romeo - Romeo. Romeo Motésquio. You know, I’ve never seem a beauty like yours. How can someone in this world be so beautiful, so pure.
Juliet - How can fate be so rude and make we love at first sight our family’s enemy?
Romeo - I fully agree. But I believe fate is the wisest creature of all. And I can say that when my eyes met yours, I felt that I would never be the same again.
Juliet - And I can say it too...I think my mother is calling me. See you, my love.
Romeo - See you, my life!
The time passed...
In the backyard
Romeo - Who’s that light that shines from the frame of a small window, guiding my way?
Juliet - Romeo, Romeo! Where’s my Romeo?
Romeo - Here, following the direction of love, hoping to live entirely the love that unites us.
Juliet - Oh! Romeo! I’ve been thinking. Although our love is strong enough to put up with any difficulty, our family won’t consent it.
Romeo - For you I’d die, I’d change my name, I’d be what you want!
Juliet - Do you swear?
Romeo - By my heart. I want to be with you forever. Would you marry me?
Juliet - I would from the bottom of my soul. Tomorrow. Tomorrow...
Romeo - Tomorrow.
At the Frei Lourenço’s room
Frei - Heaven will bless this marriage forever!
Frei - Juliet would you take Romeo as your husband?
Juliet - I would
Frei - Romeo would you take Juliet as your wife?
Romeo - For ever.
Frei - Through the powers of God your now only one thing forever!
Romeo, Juliet - Amem.
Frei - Now go in peace. Nothing will be able to destroy your love now.
Romeo - I’ll meet you tonight
Juliet - I’ll be waiting, my love.
On a street of Verona
Tebaldo - Look who is here right now! Romeo. The little Romeo. One of the members of that dishonoured family, the Montéquios!
Romeo - I don’t want argue with you! Have a nice day!
Tebaldo - But you will argue with me. Take you sword and fight like a man!
Benvólio - Oh! Stop you two right now!
Tebaldo - Why don’t you mind your own business, Benvólio? I can’t put up with you any longer. Die, my enemy’s friend!
Romeo - Noooooo!
Romeo - You killed the one I loved. Now your soul will burn in the hell forever
(Tebaldo is killed by Romeo, who runs away)
Mrs Capuleto - Oh, my dear Tebaldo! Our anger will destroy the one who did it to you! Romeo did it, and, now, according to what our prince said, he will either be killed or he’ll be banned from this city for good.
At Juliet’s house
Criada - Oh my goodness! He’s dead, he’s dead. What a miserable day. He was killed by Romeo. He was killed.
Juliet - Who was killed?
Criada - Tebaldo, your dear cousin, Tebaldo.
Juliet - And now, what’s happening with Romeo?...
Criada - People say that he’s going to be banned from the city.
Juliet - Oh my heart! I’d rather die. My love, my true love...My husband!
At Frei Lourenço’s room
Romeo - Frei Lourenço, and now what should I do?
Frei - Run away, for your own safety.
Romeo - I can’t leave my love.
Frei - If you stay you won’t have her.
Romeo - For her, I will go. But I swear our love will overcome all the obstacles to survive.
(Romeo leaves, Juliet arrives)
Juliet - Oh, Frei Lourenço, I need you help.
Frei - I know how you feel my young lady.
Juliet - Frei, you don’t understand. I’d rather than to hate to live without my Romeo by my side. And besides, my family now wants me to get married you someone named conde de Páris.
Frei - I believe I have a solution to your problems: one potion. As soon as you drink it, you’ll start to sleep as if you were dead. Everyone you’ll think you’re not alive anymore. So, your family you place you into the grave where all the Capuletos lay forever. Some hours after that, you’ll wake up again to run away with your Romeo.
Juliet - I accept. For my love I accept anything.
At Juliet’s bedroom
Juliet - Romeo, Romeo, I drink it for you!...
(The maid enters)
Criada - She’s dead. She’s dead! Death haven’t gone away from this house!
Mrs Capuleto - My dear daughter. Dead. You’re dead and so is my happiness.
(Frei enters)
Frei - She deserves all the possible honours. She must be placed where all the honoured Capuletos are.
(Everyone leaves, except the maid, Romeo enters)
Romeo - Juliet, where is my Juliet?
Criada - How can you be here? How do you dare? I don’t belong to here. She’s dead, she’s dead. Your secret love is end up for good.
(Romeo leaves sadly).
Romeo - How can it be? How can it be?
Romeo - I’ll die with her, through its poison in my hands, tonight, right by her side.
At the Capuleto’s grave
Romeo - My love, my dear wife! Death haven’t taken all your beauty. My eyes will meet you here on Earth for the last time, but they will meet you in heaven, and we will leave the love we deserve.
For you!
(Romeo drinks the poison)
(Juliet awakes scared, she tries to understand the situation)
Juliet - My Romeo, with poison in his hands. I understand. I drank it to have our love possible after death. I’ll follow you, my Romeo!
(Juliet kills herself)
