SHIFFLETT Brothers and Families
Seated: Ruth Ford (d/o Margaret Shiflett), Sell Shifflett, Will Shifflett |
A Bit of Soap Opera Sell Shifflett went to a box social and bid on Maggie Ford's box, and then they had lunch together. When they married in 1901, he was listed as a widower and she a divorcee. Maggie was married four times and had eleven children. Her oldest was Mary who was born while Maggie was single and working as a housekeeper for Mr. Miller. Mr. Miller is believed to be the father. Maggie's 3rd husband was Ford; he ran off with Mary, Maggie's daughter, so Maggie divorced him and he then married Mary, his own step-daughter. Now this part gets really confusing: Sell's step-daughter Sudie was his brother Will's wife; thus Sudie was Sell's sister-in-law as well. This makes Sell's son Roy both Sudie's nephew and her half-brother. Whew! |

She had been making her home at her present address, 322 East Market St., for the past 17 years.

Obituary for Sell Shifflett
Sell V. Shifflet, a former deputy sheriff, and in more recent years custodian of the court house, died early Sunday morning of a self inflicted
