What is it?  Project Love is a special division of the Illinois Citizens for Life Charitable Trust.  It is designed to provide help to a pregnant woman or new mother with a financial problem that is hampering her pregnancy or motherhood.

What does it do?  Under the Supervision of a volunteer committee, Project Love dispenses limited sums of money to meet a specific need of a woman who has exhausted all other sources of financial aid.

How does it work?  The Project Love Aid Committee receives and reviews applications for help which are submitted through private or public agencies that have assisted the applicant in her search for aid and have determined that Project Love is her last resort.  Communication is handled through the agency which submits the application in behalf of its client.  If the request is approved, the committee will issue a check to the applicant's creditor.  Only one request per pregnancy may be approved and the help extended must fall within the financial limits set annually by Project Love's Governing Committee (a group of volunteers appointed by the President of Illinois Citizens for Life).

How is it funded?  Initial funding for the project came from a $10,000 grant from the Clinton Bliss Memorial Fund.  There is one annual event or activity conducted by the project's Governing Committee to augment or replenish the moneys available to help pregnant women and new mothers.

Any precedent?  Yes, this project is modeled on and follows closely the guidelines and procedures of Project Life, a Minnesota organization launched with a $5,500 bequest, which has in the past two decades raised and distributed more than $1,000,000 to needy mothers.  The only major difference in the two projects is that Project Love operates within  Illinois Citizens for Life.

Project Love offers a helping hand to pregnant women and new mothers who are undergoing a financial crisis which threatens the welfare of their children and themselves and is beyond their ability to resolve.
