* Before buying a budgie, do some research. There's lots of information on the Internet
for instance.
*Before bringing a budgie home, have a cage and food ready for him/her. So you can put
the bird right in the cage when it arrives.
*You can get a budgie from your local pet store or a breeder. Breeders usually have
better prices than the stores.
*The best time to buy a budgie is when it's 6-8 weeks old. It's much easier to tame and
teach a youngster than an adult. You can tell a young budgie by its large black eyes,
which do not yet show an iris. Young bird has a light pink cere, small throat spots and
its entire head is covered with a wavy design(which disappears after its first molt).
*Choose a healthy bird with clean vent area, clean nostrils and shiny feathers. Leave
the shy and quiet ones - there may be something wrong with them. A healthy budgie is
active and playful.
