Music

I started out my college career as an engineering major at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, in 1977. I then graduated with a BA in Music in 1996 (it's a long story.) My major instrument was voice. I love to sing and will do so every chance I get. I also learned to play all types of instruments, which I do with great fervor, but with very little virtuosity. I also played clarinet in the marching band, which is kind of like being Vice President. It makes you feel good, but nobody really notices you.

Currently, I don't get to make as much music as I'd like to. I am a music minister at the First Baptist Church of Babylon, NY, where I play the organ (a 1928 Moller) and lead praise and worship choruses with my wife, Ruth and daughter, Jessica. We also have the best guitar player I've ever heard (including Clapton). His name is Dave Dyott.

I am a member of the Recorder Orchestra of New York, which is conducted by Ken Andresen. We are the only group of our kind in the U.S. The recorders we play (not the tape kind) range in size from the 4 inch garklein to the 7 foot contrabass. Our repertoire is extremely eclectic; everything from medieval motets to Big Band stuff.

I have a Casio WK-1500 that I hook up to my PC to play and record MIDI. One of my favorite MIDI sites is The Classical MIDI Archives which has a HUGE catalog of sequences from all eras. I'd like to do some composing, but I never seem to find the time.
