Dante Gabriel Rosetti (1828-1882)

Rosetti painted in soft focus, but used vibrant colors. His backgrounds lack intricate detail. In a way, they seem to hearken back to the simple, symbolic backgrounds of Medieval and Early Renaissance art. Rosetti's women all have similar, striking features. Was this the love of his life? A painting of his wife (Regina Cordia) has similar features, but so does his self portrait.
