StraightNews Recommended Books on Homosexuality The Facts on Homosexuality by John Ankerberg and John Weldon (Harvest House Publishers, 1994) This small book refutes many "scientific proofs" that homosexuality is totally genetic and unchangeable. Factual and compelling, even though written from a somewhat fundamentalist Christian viewpoint. Many of us don't agree with that, but we still recommend it as eye-opening. The Truth about Homosexuality by Fr. John Harvey (Ignatius Press, 1996) on causes and treatments for homosexuality. Examines wide range of thinkers and theories. Father Harvey is the founder of Courage, a Catholic support group with many local chapters. Another useful book by Father Harvey is The Homosexual Person (Ignatius Press, 1987). Willpower's Not Enough by Arnold M. Washton and Donna Boundy (Harper & Row). Same-sex attraction can include addictive, anonymous sex, pornography, cyber and phone sex. Many gays had a dysfunctional childhood, and some also have other addictions. This book can help you understand and overcome any habit. For the most helpful info, you can start with Part III, "Recovery". Homosexual No More by William Consiglio (Victor Books) offers many more helpful insight into what drives homosexuality. There's plenty of practical advice, even if you don't agree with it's religious suggestions. Unfortunately, this book is currently out of print. We will seek permission to reprint parts in our site. Reparative Therapy for Male Homosexuality by Joseph Nicolosi, Ph.D. (Jason Aronson, 1991) offers valuable insights on what drives same-sex attractions for many men. This book alone, however, does not supply all the helpful info everyone might need. No one resource has all the helpful info you could use. You may not agree with everything in these books. Still, you could find all of them useful. Top of Page/Our Recommendations | Regeneration

Reading Straight & Narrow? by Thomas Schmidt (InterVarsity Press, 1995). An outstanding resource for those who want to delve deeply into the Scriptures regarding homosexuality. Written by a professor of New Testament. Very compassionate, yet doesn't dodge the tough questions. Unwanted Harvest? by Mona Riley & Brad Sargent (Broadman & Holman, 1995). The gay community is a mission field waiting to be harvested, but few churches are willing to reap.
