Hughey is a derivative of Huey and O'Hoey.
The O'Hoey's were of primary importance in Ulster Ireland until subdued by their kinsmen the MacDunlevy's about the year 1300.
The name Hoey is also the name of a County Meath sept.
There are Huey's and Hughey's in Ulster Ireland that are primarily of plantation stock.
